Pregnant after stillbirth (UK)

I had my baby girl (stillborn) in November at 34 weeks. I found out last week that I'm pregnant which is what we wanted. I was wondering if anyone is currently going through a pregnancy after stillbirth and if your care has been any different? I was hoping to request more scans and definitely wanted one before my 12 week scan. Preferable around 8-9 weeks. Is this something they allowed you to have?

I had my son stillborn at 34 weeks as well in feb of 2021. I was pregnant again that October and we did have a miscarriage but my doctor said that when we did get pregnant whenever I felt like we needed a scan to check on the baby then she would absolutely oblige no matter how early in the pregnancy.

Hopefully your doctor will be the same bc I understand it’s something you will be worried about and you deserve peace of mind whenever you feel like you need it!

I had a late term miscarriage Oct 2023. I fell pregnant Feb 2024. I was given scans at 6, 8, 10 and 12 weeks by the epu. I also had growth scans from 32 weeks

@Holly Oh that's awful, I'm so sorry that happened. I have a 2 year old, then a 12 week miscarriage and then we had a stillbirth. I feel like I've got nothing left in me if this was to happen again 😭! I already feel so stressed and anxious 💔

@Rosie thank you, that's reassuring. Did you feel well looked after during your pregnancy and reassured throughout? Xx

In 2023 my son was stillborn at 31+5. Im so sorry for what you went through and what your going through. It stays with you forever 🥺 In 2024 i had a silent miscarriage at 9 weeks and it broke me once again and i was convinced i was done with trying. Fast forward to today and im 31+5 and im praying everyday thats we get further and further. The Hospital has been amazing and have seen us from 5 weeks at EPU. If you have a consultant who supported you during the loss of your daughter, make them aware and they will do everytjing to make sure you get seen regularly. We were seen at 5,7,9 and then 12 weeks. We were then seen by the consultant every 2 weeks who performed scans to put my mind at ease. These scans were inbetween the 20 weeks anomaly scan and until we were seen by the rainbow clinic at 23 weeks. The same dr will perform the scans from there onwards so your care is consistent. The bereavement midwife will also be with you at those scans. Feel free to inbox me anytime x

@Sara thank you so much for that and I'm so sorry that you had to go through that. I'm so happy that you're getting your rainbow baby! I'll more than likely message you if that's okay when I have my next meltdown 🤣 🫶🏻🫶🏻 xx

Hi I’m in the UK too and my son was stillborn in June at 39 weeks. I’m currently 12 weeks pregnant now. Each health board is different and mine didn’t offer me a scan any earlier than 12 weeks however I was able to go to the early pregnancy unit if I felt I wanted a scan earlier than 12 weeks. I’m having serial growth scans from 28 weeks due to my daughter and son both being classed as “small” babies for me. I am still very nervous about something being missed because I had a scan 5 days before we found out my son had died and it was a normal scan. Sending you strength and let’s get through this 1 day at a time! Xx

@Danika congratulations being 12 weeks! My bereavement midwife contacted me today and has thankfully booked me in for a scan at 7 weeks. I'm so nervous. I think it's going to be a really triggering experience for me. The last time I had a scan it was the doctor confirming she had passed away 😭 x
