@Dianna you used 2oz of milk and then a formula bottle? Or 2oz of milk mixed with the formula?
For me personally I waited till she was 12 months then started on lactose free milk at 6 ounces after finishing the last can of her formula. After about a week of lactose free milk I transitioned her to through all the colors on the caps of milk until she settled on the red cap. Im also able to get it from WIC which is lovely.
I also did a gradual change. My son would drink 6oz formula bottles, so I would do 2oz whole milk/4oz formula bottles (mixed) and every week I added one more oz of whole milk until it was all whole milk. Went fine for us :)
@Michelle i would do them separately
Per our doctor, I just switched cold-turkey. After I finished our last can, I just did milk. I also immediately switched to straw cups in the day and took any 5 days to switch the morning and night bottles to straw bottles (same type as the formula bottles so it “looked” the same). I didn’t want to associate milk with regular bottles and then break that habit later, too. So formula and bottles just never were an option anymore because they just weren’t in the house. Baby wasn’t a fan of drinking out of straw cups but I stuck with it. It pretty much took 2 months or so finding the right straw cups and him being okay with drinking a good amount.
@Denise what straw cups did you try and like?
@Michelle I literally tried almost all of them lol! I’ve found the hard to suck ones were the ones he hated (which were all munchkin, nuk, tommee tippee, Odwalla, etc) Here’s my run-down of ones that have passed the test: Grosmimi-for milk. Easy to suck and very spill proof Lollaland-milk and smoothie. Easy to suck but not spill proof Reduce stainless steel tumbler-water. Easy to suck and spill proof. My go-to for outings. Calla & friends-milk. Easy to suck. Not spill proof Zak!-water. Easy to suck and spill proof. Another go to for outings and water for bed. Dr. Brown weighted straw bottles-Not that easy to suck but most similar to his previous formula bottles. Very spill proof.
I started with two ounces, then I added two ounces every day after that until I reached the amount of milk she was drinkong per day. Took about 10-12 days for the full transition. I would use the same bottle warmer I had been using all along
