Is it safe to eat chocolates as a snack once in a while when I have gestational diabetes?

Please no judgement. Sometimes I crave and give in to chocolates as a snack and feel guilty after. My GD is diet controlled at the moment but I do have a sweet treat here and there. Is this going to harm my babe when blood sugar spikes say during sweet snacks?

Pretty sure it’s okay as a treat but only small amounts and if you have control of your blood sugar levels

I had gestational diabetes during my pregnancy and tried several dark chocolate brands. Try those with 80% cacao and above! This way you can even eat a bit more but they do not taste that sugary. However, now that I am 14 weeks PP I find that I do not enjoy milk chocolate much anymore and crave the dark one. In any case, whatever you decide to do just how your blood sugar level spikes and this will give you an idea of how much you can tolerate to keep it within range.

You can if you pair it well ie with double cream if you not already join the gestational diabetes page some amazing recipes and what you can and can’t eat it’s so helpful x

Are you in the uk? Honestly the Oppo ice cream really helped me with chocolate cravings - they’ve got low carbs and natural sweeteners!

Dark chocolate, I like Honey Mamas chocolate bar sweetened only with honey, but be careful to avoid blood sugar spikes so if you have to eat a whole bar probably just do unsweetened dark chocolate

You can have dark chocolate, Freddo, chocolate buttons or kinder bueno (one bar) according to the GD website but pair it with something 😊
