my boy was 6 months we went on a road trip to north Wales but that is 3 hrs and also to cromer what's about the same, we had to stop a few time for an hr or so, hope you have a good holiday where ever you go x
We took a train to see family for a few weeks. Train was easier on our 6 month trip then our 1.5 year trip. Car was harder earlier because my son hated his infant seat but my daughter has been chill with both so that is something worth considering. In terms of something I would do differently I would have invested in some portable cabinet locks and door knob covers.
My boy was 3 months when we took him on a 3 hour drive, honestly would have planned more stops as he was cluster feeding at the time
@Kimberley how long was the flight? Did the airline supply you with anything? Also curious how you handled diaper changes? I feel like those bathrooms are so tight.
2 months old 🤞 we flew from california to new jersey and back for my sons baptism and he’s been on so many flights since that. my new baby will be the same! 2 months old flying from new jersey to california and back for my sisters graduation!!
@Leanne was your lo eating solids at that point? Wondering how feeding goes while traveling. Did you pack a bunch of mashed foods? Right now I’m bf baby but I’m pretty sure solids are right around the corner.
@Katelynn oooh great point with the locks and covers, thank you! For the train ride, did they supply you with some sort of baby seat or did you need to bring your own?
@Onny yeah I feel like with driving it would involve lots of stopping. I’ve only done small drives with my little guy and for some reason when daddy drives he sleeps but when mama drives he loses it! I usually ride in the back with him when dad drives so maybe he’s lonely back there when I’m driving.
6 months we took a flight to Mallorca. 8 months we drove to Portugal which is 20+ hours drive 😊
@Tyy I always sit in the back tbh, but a mirror may help, cuz baby might be happy seeing you through that
Stay in the UK, we done a 1 night stay when she was 9 weeks old (3h car journey), holiday to florida for 2 weeks when she was 3 months old and another holiday to florida for 3 weeks when she was 11 months old
@Annie wow! Any travel tips? How are you planning with two babies now?
@Tyy its best to call and ask but with our trains in Canada we have the choice to have them sit in our lap or buy them their own seat. No special seats are allowed because there isn't anything to attach them to. We are allowed to bring a car seat and stroller for free in the luggage spot.
@Jennifer 20+ hrs! Woah that sounds rough. How did it go? Anything specific make the trip a bit smoother?

@Tyy it was about 3hour flight, she breastfed and slept. Only thing the airline supplies is the seatbelt to attach to yours. I changed her on the fold down table... So much easier than going in the toilets If you fly long haul you MAY get a bassinet but not always. When my second was 1 we flew to Barbados and had to hold her the whole way
@Hazel what was the biggest difference between the 3 month flight vs the 11 month flight?
We went to Cornwall when our little boy was 6 months old which was an 8 hour drive from where we live. It was a lodge holiday so relatively straight forward apart from packing everything including the kitchen sink 😂 It was easy as he was a chilled baby and 'portable'. Worth mentioning we then went to Turkey when he was 18 months and don't get me wrong, we did have a great time but it was really hard work too! The flight out he didn't want to be held, didn't want to sleep etc. Actually on holiday he'd only nap in the room meaning one of us spent two hours a day back at the room. He was in what I'd call an inbetween age where he wasnt young enough to entertain but also wasn't old enough if that makes sense? 😅 We're going to Fuerteventura in September this year and he will be nearly 4 and Baby sister 6 months. I'm feeling much more relaxed about it as he'll love the activities and water slides etc but praying she's a good baby like he was 🤞🏻x
Travelled with a 7 months to Italy for 2 weeks 🇮🇹 I'm dreading travelling with him now he's 1 year old and he doesn't sit still. The earlier you travel with them the better 😭
The 3m was a lot easier ! She slept around 6h of the 8h flight so there was very little time we had to keep her occupied. She had all her favourite sleepy queues, unlimited boobie, cuddles, the movement like being in a car and the white noise of the engines. It was amazing. She had just started walking at the 11m flight so she was not wanting to stay seated ! We had to pull out all the stops to keep her occupied and had to let her walk up and down a lit to keep her happy. I would do it all again though as it was an amazing holiday! I do feel like 3-5m is the perfect age for first holiday as they still sleep quite a bit and are happy just lying down or sitting in a pushchair as they haven't realised they can get up and move yet! Plus i ebf so I didn't have to worry about food for her.
@Tyy she was absolutely amazing! I was worried that she’d become fussy etc but she slept for majority of it. We stopped quite a few times so I could change her nappy, feed her etc but apart from that, she was good as gold there and back! We actually got her a tablet from Amazon and downloaded loads of different series on there and that helped a lot!
We flew to Texas last May. Our son was 1.5 years old.
My son was 1 years old when we took him on a flight we went to South Carolina
1st- Philly by train she was about 3.5 months and did well for the 1.5hr ride! No tears just curious and fed her on the way. 2nd-international 8hr plane at 8 months slept for most of it but refused the sky cot so we had to hold her the whole time, thought my arms would fall off 😭 She was sick on the way back so that was rough but I bf her more and she slept mostly minimal crying. The crew even offered to hold her if we were tired!!
3 months 2hour flight and again at 5 months now we are flying when he will be 9 months. We had some overnight seaside stays beforehand 😊
@Tyy honestly the key to traveling with children is having a lot of snacks and when they’re really little like two months old, it’s so easy flying with them. the hardest flights we’ve had were when my son was more like one years old. with 2 kids my lifesaver is gonna be my little bracelet leash that i use w my son and timing feeding the baby for ascent and decent (to make their ears pop so she doesn’t scream the entire time) and i use fruit snacks to pop my sons ears. also, the stupidest thing that airlines implemented is parents boarding first. I am literally the last person on the plane because they have to sit for less time. i also always book a window seat in the very back of the plane. if u have help to bring that’s great but i never do and it’s been fine every time. u just have to go into it knowing that it might suck but it wont last forever. i’ve had literal flights from hell but guess what they all ended and are just stories now lol i’ll put some pictures in the comments
We flew to Mallorca (2 hour flight) with our lo at 10months for a 5 day holiday. Planned flight times around her milk feeds tk help her ears pop n she ended up sleeping most of the flights cos of it to!
3 months and I did a 14 hour car ride as I was moving and then shortly after I would do flights back home with my son. Honestly it’s not as hard as you think. It’s more stressful just thinking about it lol
From the uk to Mexico when my eldest was 4 months old. It was great!
I haven’t gone more than 45 minutes away since my baby was born everything is so expensive

It wasn’t that bad but I think we did 16 hours with a 1.5y old and 3 month old. We did a lot of night driving and made hella stops. And I did about the same with my sister and my 1 year old when we were moving. We stopped overnight once I think.
@Kirsty yes hope you get another chill travel experience, this time with baby girl!
We did a 6 hour road trip at 2ish months and a 5 hour flight at 7 months 🥰
we drove 10 hours to missouri when he was 3 weeks old🤣 he slept through most of it with exceptions of feeding and changing his diaper
@Jennifer glad you had a good experience and props to you for the long travel!
@Ellie how’d the flight go with the LO?
@Juliana how did it go? Bring anything to help make the trip easier?
@Tyy it went pretty well. He slept for most of the flight
@Alexis aww poor baby! And poor arms!
We went for a long weekend road trip to another city when my son was 13 months. He wasn't walking yet which I think was for the best, as we didn't have to worry about him running off and he didn't object to being dragged around in the stroller most of the time. We went to a renaissance festival during the trip as well as a museum and several restaurants. He was good, but he seemed exhausted the whole time and we had some difficulty with naps in the hotel as well as some very early morning starts.
5mo, flight to Florida to visit family. We had a layover both there and back, but the flight wasn't terrible. He cried on first flight there, but not the 2nd. And then cried on one of the flights back. Everybody around us was super nice and understanding. We did a lot of driving while we were there, that's the only "regret', doctor speak, that I had. Wish we didn't drive as much. Baby got so hot and sweaty and hated being in the car as much as we were. But other than that, we had a blast. I've since traveled via flights at 14mo and 17mo and also drove ~6-7hrs at 19mo.
@Tyy I brought snacks for sure and stuff he liked coloring books and some building toys like magnets he actually fell asleep too
We flew to visit family for the first time when my first was 4 months old, then again when she was 7 months and 11 months. The first time was definitely stressful but it went really well overall. The biggest “issue” was her schedule being affected by the time zone difference, which was more of an inconvenience due to super early morning wake ups than anything else. I’d say it was worth it!
When my son was 12 months, we flew to punta cana. The flight and vacation were overall good. We booked our flight early in the morning, we brought a lot of snacks and toys for him
@Annie such a cute family! Thanks so much for the tips!

@Melissa ughh yes nap time! I already struggle with baby’s naps, I’m sure it’s even harder when they aren’t in their usual environment.
@Stacey aww man of course you had a layover 🙈 yeah that’s why I’m leaning away from a long drive. Especially with this little guy (always runs hot). Warms me right up every time I hold him. I’m worried of overheating and not being able to stop quick enough during a crying spell.
@Sara since you’ve traveled a few times now is there anything you’re bringing for baby or doing with baby to make the trip smoother? Also at 7 months flying how did you handle feedings? I’m thinking baby was eating solids at that point. Did you need to bring small containers of food with you into the airport?
@M 🍃🌷🐈⬛ that sounds amazing! Yes great tips on the snacks and toys. Also curious if the early flight helped too! Something for me to consider 🤔
@Casey which would you say was harder? Guessing the 7 month trip?
The younger they are the better. My eldest was 9 weeks when we took a flight.
