What are you entitled to as a first time mum? sure start maternity grant

I’m a FTM and so confused at what I might be able to claim and what is what! I’m looking at whether I’m entitled to claim for the sure start maternity grant because I believe I’ll be entitled to working tax credit as my husband and I both work full time. Look at the government website it says they’re stopping working tax credit and also child tax credit from April so is there any equivalent? Is anyone able to please advise what you’re entitled to claim as a first time mum? Every little helps so really don’t want to miss out on anything but I’m just in a minefield going round in circles and baby brain is kicking in hard!! X

Just read up on this grant now to check it out and it says you have to already receive certain benefits. It does say you can apply 6 months after the birth of your child so if you apply for anything thereafter then that would count but you’d have to wait to apply

You can no longer make any new claims for any tax credits as it has been replaced by Universal Credit. You are only entitled to the Sure Start grant if you are claiming benefits such as Universal Credit. Your eligibility to claim UC depends on your income, however, if your husband is earning a full wage and you are too then you are unlikely to be eligible. If your maternity pay is SMP then you may be entitled but it will all depend on your total household income. You can call your local Citizens Advice and they will complete a benefit check for you now & for your maternity wage x

@Antonia thank you so much I will give them a ring tomorrow x
