I asked my Maternal child health nurse who said not until they’re school aged and can do it themselves. It’s a good question because no one ever mentions when it should be taught!

@Mel literally no one and then we are just meant to know? Not all boys will be circumcised so I feel this should be taught

You don't need to. I would pull it down the tiniest TINIEST bit if I needed to clean wet poop or anything, but its pretty good at keeping nasties out. And by the time you need to start cleaning it, they're old enough to take care of that. I did make sure that the foreskin would peel back all the way when they were like... 1? 1.5? Just to make sure they wouldn't have problems when they got older with anything down there. But that was all I did
