Maternity Allowance is the equivalent of SMP but you can’t do any work alongside it (you also don’t get the 90% for six weeks either.) https://www.gov.uk/maternity-allowance Might take a while to get through. Apply asap xx
Perfect thank you I’ve requested all the forms x
You can get Maternity Allowance but that will be seen as UC as a benefit so will be reduced pound for pound rather than being treated as income like SMP is.
I was self employed until a couple of weeks ago and I’m nearly 15 weeks now. Been applying for jobs, but I know I won’t be entitled to any paid maternity leave starting a new job now, I don’t really know what to do with all of this stuff either! 😣
You only get around £700 every 4th weeks with MA until 39 weeks. You need to get the form from midwives Mat B 1 form, then apply the MA which you need to send Mat B 1 form to them. Check out the form for MA on www.gov.uk - its pretty easy, at least you get some monies
Thanks guys, appreciate it as it’s so overwhelming x
Im also self employed and I’m on maternity allowance, and claim UC. They have deducted my entire UC so I get £0 and that’s including money for baby. I only get my Maternity Allowance so I will be returning to work in March which is 6 weeks after baby was born x
I'm self employed, due end of June and plan to request MA in March. I will probably go back to work early and I know I can work for 10 days without the allowance stopping. Some websites worth checking: pregnantthenscrewd, maternity action
Sorry I have 3 weeks to go, so I didn’t know if with me being so close to finish line that i could get a head start x
