Washing newborn clothes

So I was due March 15 but I’m being induced next week so I guess I’m feb mama not a March lol . So I’m trying to pack my hospital and I’m wondering, are we washing newborn clothes from the shops before we put them on the newborns? Or are we putting them straight on

Wash babies clothes like you'd wash your own new clothes, I've washed absolutely everything x

Wash everything with smell-free, dye-free gentle detergent and congratulations!

I washed most of it but she’s been fine if it wasn’t washed beforehand. Unless it’s dirty, has a weird smell or was 2nd hand it doesn’t “need” washing. I don’t do it to my own clothes either when I first buy them

I attended an antenatal class at the weekend and they said there is no evidence to suggest you must wash the clothes first, however it’s still something I am going to do as want them to be nice and soft for baby ☺️

It’s a personal preference but I personally washed everything cos you don’t know how clean those warehouses store them clothes and also I don’t like the smell of new clothes wether for baby or me.

I washed all of ours but mostly because I don't like the smell of new clothes 🤣

It’s important to wash them they’re covered in all kinds of crap that we let alone brand new humans don’t need their skin exposed to. Flame retardants are all throughout the PJs anyway, but what can be removed of other chemicals should be.

@Jade there’s loads of evidence, including that the distinctive “new clothes” smell is formaldehyde that’s sprayed on to protect the clothes and stop them from creasing in transit x

Wash them you never know what people did before. They went into the store to touch the clothes.

Especially men they scratch down there and touch everything. That’s why I wash all the new stuff even toys

I was ANY clothing I buy from the store before I wear it so I do the same with my daughters just because it could've been tried by someone else and sometimes there's dust/dirt or lose lint stuff on it from being new and sitting in boxes to hanging on racks and stuff
