Abstinence. If you’re sexually active and don’t want to take hormones, condoms. There’s also natural family planning. If none of those are an option, then some form of BC. Due to BC containing hormones that alter a woman’s reproductive system, every woman’s body reacts differently to different types of BC due to the many negative side effects of it. You just have to find the right one that your body can tolerate. For me, I like the Xulane patches. The only real problem I’ve had is that they’ve increased my cholesterol levels (a typical side effect of BC), but I take a supplement that will hopefully curb that. My weight loss journey has been much slower (down 15 lbs so far), but that’s to be expected since I’m on BC. My experience with the pill was horrible, and I like that I can still have periods with the patch. I definitely wasn’t putting a foreign object inside of me like an IUD or arm implant, so the patch was the best option for me. Hope this helps.
If you don't want any more children, statistically the IUD is the 'best' option in terms of successful birth control (although all of them are very effective if taken/administered correctly). The second question is tolerance- how your body tolerates different hormones or devices. Some ladies find the IUD excellent and have no periods with it either, but others have a painful experience or heavy bleeding. There is no way to predict how you are going to react to them without trying, unfortunately. I would suggest talking through with contraception counsellor (usually a nurse) to find the right option to suit you.
I used multiple birth control products for 12 years before having my son
I have tried numerous BC options over the years and Mirena works the best for me. I have endometriosis and find my symptoms are well controlled with Mirena. Like others have said, every woman responds to IUD’s differently with some having positive and some negative.
Your partner getting the snip is the best option! Why put hormones into your body when he can solve the issue 🙂
It depends on you because there are so many different types of birth control. I suggest talking your OB or PCP because they can recommend some within your insurance
I do NFP and have for like a decade. When we tried w him I got pregnant in one go (semen was a “foreign substance to my body it took straight away) and since him (5yr old) I haven’t gotten pregnant and all I do is track, and condoms on days I’m ovulating. Only on my period we don’t have sex because I’m bloated and feel like shit, not because of the menstruation. I don’t want anything to affect my hormones or weight (that I’ve tried really hard to get back to my pre baby body) so I just track. My period only goes for 3 days these days and it comes on time. We have sex 3-4* a week on average
Depends some make you gain weight and mess up breastfeeding supply since you want long term I suggest paraguard iud or nephlaxanon
