I used the hot shot method with my first and will use it for my next baby - tbh never heard of the 10ml measurement. I eyeball it and approx use 1oz of hot shot to sterilise the formula. Hope that helps.
The actual amount for the hot shot doesn’t actually matter, it’s just so that there’s enough water to cover the amount of formula to dissolve. When we do 7oz bottles, I use about 2oz boiling water to put the formula into. For non hot shot method I would always put the formula and water into the bottle first and then into the rapid cool To sterilise I would clean with washing up liquid and then use a sterilising tablet
@Sheena that makes things much easier! Seen so many different opinions. Definitely helps, thank you 🥰
@Chelsie amazing, thank you! 🥰
@Tamara no worries. I also find tiktok has all the answers to the hot shot method but honestly it doesn’t have to be a specific amount at all of hot water 😊
It depends how warm your little one likes bottle. I would have done 1oz boiling over the formula and then topped up with 3oz cooled boiled water for a 4oz bottle. Or 2oz boiling and 4oz cooler for a 6oz bottle etc. Practice at home and then you’ll know exactly what you need when out. I only ever used nuby to cool the water, not the milk, as then its far easier to clean
I do the non hot shot method, my LB is on 5oz, so I use the bottle to measure that, pour it into the rapid cooler, then then pour it back into the bottle once it’s done and then add the formula. I found this way worked better for me especially if I’m out and about as if put the formula in the rapid cooler you’re supposed to sterilise after each use. If it’s just the water I just wash it out instead of sterilising it, so much easier
@Kayleigh thank you! The only thing with this is once it’s cooled down in the rapid cool I don’t think it’s then hot enough to kill the bacteria in the formula though, has to be atleast 70 degrees or above to kill any bacteria I think!xx
@Kayleigh but you need boiling water to kill the bacteria in the formula, thats the whole point of using the hot shot x
@Tamara it seems you are getting mixed answers as some people are in UK and some in USA. Following NHS guidance you absolutely need to use hot shot method to kill the bacteria…
@CeeCee yes I’d do this regardless of using hot shot or non hot shot method xx
I just the hot shot method and we fill it half xxx
I do the same as CeeCee, 2oz boiling water, add formula, mix mix mix and then add 4oz cooled boiled water for a 6oz bottle. My little girl likes her bottles quite warm so this is the perfect temperate for her! As per NHS guidelines, you have to use water of 70’c to kill off any bacteria in the formula ❤️
I just roughly keep 10ml in the bottom of the bottle then always test the temp on my arm before I feed her x
