Breast feeding v Formula

So yesterday a family member had my little one for the evening (8 weeks old) Usually he is breastfed with the occasional bottle of formula. He usually has one bottle of formula and evening with my partner. He had three bottles of formula and a bottle of EBM as we were out for the whole evening. Usually he sleeps between two and four hours stretches overnight and is usually up by about 5:30-06:30. Last night he slept from 10 pm till 4 am (he’s never slept that long before) Had a breastfeed at 4am another one at 6:30 am and straight after that feed went to sleep until 10 am. He also stayed in his next to me cribs alll night which we sometimes struggle with…. This is way longer than he has ever sleep and he’s got me thinking- is it because he had so much formula? And would I be better off feeding him more formula in the evenings to get better stretches of sleep 🤔 or was it just a complete fluke!?

It could be a complete fluke, but I suppose there’s no harm trying again tonight to see if the same happens?

I think it is formula. Breast milk is so much lighter and they don’t get as much. All of the formula fed babies I know sleep well. 😴 I breastfeed and we tried formula with my son for the night and he spat it out 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️

It could be a fluke my 7 week old whose only breastfed had been sleeping no more than 3 hrs at a time at night but last two nights slept 11.30-6. Hoping it’s not a fluke but deep down I know it probably will be 😞😂

It could be that baby had way more food than usual. So not necessarily the formula but the 4 bottles over the evening

Evening was 4pm-11:30pm so not only a few hrs

It’s most likely the formula. It’s very common and well known that formula fed babies often (not always lol) sleep longer than breastfed which is why so many give formula before bedtime.

I’m no longer breastfeeding but look into making sure baby is getting the hind milk. It’s much fattier and comes at the end of a feed so keeps them nice an full - the stuff at the start is thinner and more for hydration. But as others have said, it is common for breastfed babies to have 1 bottle of formula before bed to get them sleeping xx
