Changing boys nappies

My little boy is 9 days old and I really haven’t got the hang of changing his nappy yet without him weeing all over himself 😅 I feel like I change his clothes a million times a day Becuase he wees all over his back when I’m changing him. Has anyone got any useful tips or tricks? I’ve heard that you can wet below their bellow button as it’s the cold that stimulates them to wee.

The cold wet wipe trick is super handy! Open the nappy, wipe him with a cold wet wipe, cover back up and wait a bit. You can even be cheeky and blow on it. 🤣 You can also put an open nappy underneath him before you remove the one you'll change, so when you remove it his bum slides right onto it.

Rub under the belly button with a wipe and wait a minute before opening and starting to change

The cold wipe trick works for me, but if you're still struggling get some dog pee pads for the change table to help contain the mess

We’ve always had a towel on the changing mat just in case they do wee while the nappy is off, it soaks it up rather than it running down their back. Also, when he was little we use to throw a little square muslin over his penis to stop the fountain 😂🫣

Again Wet wipe under the belly button.

The wet wipe under the belly button honestly didn’t really work for us, but my baby did grow out of it by 2 months or so. Much to my enjoyment he only did it a handful of times for me but seemed to be a fountain every time my husband changed him. 🤣

I felt the exact same but once his umbilical cord fell off and healed it was a lot easier. Now tbh we never really have any leaks aside from after naps/morning when his nappy is more full

Don’t rush it. Undo the diaper open it quickly so he penis is exposed to a lil cold air, then cover it back, wait about 30secs while opening/peeping it here and there to make sure he’s peeing in the diaper and then open and wipe as normal. I didn’t use “wetwipes” (like at all) but the cold air itself did the trick.

I don’t have a boy, but one time when I was at a boutique I saw they sold teepees for changes and i thought that was so cool😂 they are different, cute fabrics, and they are absorbent so supposedly when they pee it soaks it up

Thank you all so much. I’ve been using doggy pee pads now as we had some left over from when our dog was a puppy so that’s been super helpful! And yes! @Maci I’ve seen those teepee things and have been super tempted Becuase it’s honestly the bane of my life when I’m changing him at 3 in the morning 😂 again thanks all!

@Sarah inco pads really helped us in the hospital and spared many sets of bedding (we were there for 11 days) 🤣 though be warned the teepee things are a bit of a gimmick. Sticking a muslin on him would probably work better!

I’ve learnt the trick of using the wet wipe first not removing the nappy for a minute, if it starts to stand or look like it’s grown a little bit he’s going to wee if it doesn’t move it’s safe to move the nappy. Or if I’m really not sure I put the fresh nappy open under the old one and pull the old out from under his bum so there’s still something catching just in case xx

I used to have my fresh happy unfolded ready, as soon as I whipped the dirty one out I put the fresh one over his willy while wiping his bottom. I'd say 8 times out 10 this worked but sometimes they're too quick 🤣 now he's 13 weeks old and I can tell when we're in danger by how pointy his penis is lol, but I've not been peed on for a few weeks now
