Fast let down/gassy baby

Im EBF and looking for some advice. I believe I've got a fast flow as my 3 week old (and me) are showing all the signs. My little one is also really gassy and I think a bit of reflux although no issues with weight. I don't know if these are related to the flow but just wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar and if anything has helped?! Desperate to get to the bottom of the reflux. 🙏

Hello, I have experienced this. I follow the Thompson method and was advised to do the following: - have a towel or glass handy and breast compress to relieve pressure before feed. Using palm of the hand around the breast to encourage taking the ‘top off of the milk’. This is different to expressing. - for a few days, offer your baby the softest breast first. I was advised to do this for 3 days and it really helped - do you do starter and main on one breast and offer dessert on the other? If you do… tune into babies hunger cues. You might be offering second breast too soon and they aren’t having chance to really rest and digest before having second breast. Id do a nappy change and wait for cues. - stopped eating oats or taking any supplements 4 months on and I wish I’d also known that this really settles down. Both your breasts and babies digestive system xx

Hey, I have experienced this, If you feel your breast is full or about full, offer the other one first. Try laid back nursing for a few days to make the gravity work and slow down the milk flow Is your little one fussy at a particular breast? That might mean your flow is fast or slow , usually fast. Just ensure they have a proper latch so your body is not confused about how much milk to make ! You can express a little foremilk on a washcloth and then feed , but he careful, i expressed a lot and it caused more production of milk It'll settle down in a few days and relax ! ☺️ Give your body signals that it doesn't panick about feeding the baby 🐥 Hope you both feel better sooon!

Thanks both. I will be giving all of those tips a big try 🤞x

I had over supply and a fast let down and changing to feeding in laid back position resolved our issues with this!

I had oversupply to start, and fast let down for many many months. Just to say it does resolve itself eventually, when he got older and more robust with his own feeding and body control (probably around 5 months), i wasn't 'drowning' him so much anymore and he could cope. That probably isn't much consolation now but as others have said, lying back helped, letting a bit out before I started feeding too (hand express gently) helped too. He was very relfuxy and sicked up a lot, but it never did him any long term harm. It was distressing for us both and I took him to a osteopath out of desperation but it didn't do anything. I also block fed to reduce my supply, probably not recommended without supervision but i was desperate. Unfortunately time was the main thing that helped. Feel free to message as it can be stressful but it does get better, good luck!
