How often do you change your contacts case?

Every time I put in my contacts I think of the time I was shopping with a friend and she said she needed to buy a new case for her contacts because she lost the lid. When I told her it was cheaper to buy the 5 pack she said she didn’t want to waste 4 containers. She straight up didn’t know you’re supposed to change your case and had been using the same one for over 3 years 😭

6 moths 🤦‍♀️ I am about every 6 months and just switch them when I finish a bottle of solution, but I only wear my contacts like three times a week tops lol

Well that's gross. (The 3 years thing). As a "retired" contact lens technician I can tell you it's supposed to be every time you start a new bottle of solution on average, that's why most bottles are supposed to come with a "free" case, which is anywhere from 1-3 months. You're also not supposed to switch solutions within the same pair of lenses (like a monthly lens and switch brands of solution 2 weeks in) because the solutions are all formulated differently and added together can be bad for your eyes. And if someone has daily disposables they should NEVER be saved and stored in solution no matter if you wore them 1 hour or 12 hours, they're not designed for that and breed bacteria super easy. Anyone have questions?? I'm here all day lol (Ocular health was my passion before I went on disability)

Not a single person has told me I’m supposed to change the case and I’ve been wearing contacts since I was 13/14😂 They’d never last longer than 6 months anyway because I’d lose them but still

@Lara it's irresponsible to me for places that sell contact lenses to not educate their patients/customers on proper wear and care. Eye infections happen so easily and bigger problems can happen with improper use. When I was still working I saw a 14 year old girl come in who had permanent eye damage and vision loss because she would wear her contacts 24/7 for a month+

@Sharaya I totally agree, I’m shocked I’ve never been told! I switched to dailies a few years back so thankfully don’t need to think about it anymore, but thank you for the information, I’ll remember that if I ever switch back!

Dailies are amazing!! They're the only contacts I wear especially because I only wear them for special occasions or swimming.

Im not sure. A new one comes with my solution each time so whenever i run out of solution, i switch out the case as well.

I buy them every 3m they say they are “yearly contacts” but 3-4m and they feel like they need to be replaced - i wear them daily- so always w my new order, they throw me a free contact case so that’s when I change it. I change the solution daily in the case every time I put it back in, I squirt new solution in. I’m actually waiting for a delivery as I type. I buy from Moodylens and they always throw me in a new case. I have 3-4 cases in use at one time though, as in 3-4 different coloured pairs same prescription I pick and choose my eye colour for the day depending on what I’m wearing

@Kellie yearly contacts?? Can you send me a link by chance? Cuz there's no such thing in my field. There's daily, biweekly, and monthly.

@Sharaya https://www.moodylenses.com/collections/clearance-sale

@Kellie thanks for the link! I checked them out, these types of contacts aren't even legal in Canada 🫣 cosmetic lenses in general are reeeeeeally bad for your eyes to be wearing more than just like Halloween, they aren't manufactured the same except for the ones I've seen from Acuvue and Fresh look. Optometrist offices won't even touch these other lenses. If you do choose to wear them, I'd pitch them after 30 days from opening each individual lens. After that they're going to be getting more and more dirt and bacteria imbedded in them that can't be cleaned out no matter how well you clean them after each wear, which is why they get uncomfortable but also puts you at risk for infections

The eye damage I mentioned before was from overwearing contacts, she had corneal neovascularization which means here eyes were starved for oxygen and started growing blood vessels into her corneas where there are no vessels to deliver oxygen normally, which impaires vision, permanently. You gotta be really careful with how you care for your eyes! You only get one set!

@Sharaya I’ve been wearing since 12. I used to wear Freshlook, they’re the same to me. I still get them coloured from Freshlook. Those ones are from clearlycontact.com.AU. I have never ever bought contacts from optometrist. I’ve just changed sites coz this one’s cheaper. They get uncomfortable for me after like 3-4m of daily wear. I dunno how to explain myself. But thanks anyway.

Uhmmm I can't see her response cuz she blocked me. What did I say wrong???
