I had a continuous drip and my readings were high the entire time whilst I was in labour, which is odd Becuase I was diet controlled the whole way through. They told me to bring lucozade sport too and I had 100ml of that every hour.
This is called sliding scales. Your blood sugar will be monitored in labour (likely every hour) and if it goes above certain level (based on your hospital guidelines) you’ll have a drip of insulin. Because you’re not going to be eating very much in labour it can come with a drip of glucose to give you energy. Basically you want your levels as stable as possible in order to have baby’s levels stable too. It’s nothing to worry about, just the testing is annoying. But if you have an epidural and your legs are numb you can ask to have the blood drop taken from your toes to have functional hands when baby is born
