When can we have a bath?

Wondering when we can have a bath after vaginal delivery - just a plain one (water no soaps).

I was told straight away when I was in hospital. I think I waited 48 hours though and it was fine (I had a second degree tear and two stitches)

I was told showers only and a bath after 2 weeks because of disolvable stitches.

I was told I could have one straight away & could put lavender oil in the bath! I had an episiotomy so had stitches too☺️xx

This is the thing there's so much differing advice 😭. I have some lavender scented epsom salts, do you guys reckon that would be ok to use 1 week pp?

Maybe just ask your midwife and see what they say? Sometimes the advice differs between hospital trusts! I wouldn’t use the Epsom salts just incase they irritate it, I was advice the oil only and just 2-3 drops xx

Ok sweet, I will ask and maybe just stick to plain warm water

I’ve been using Epsom salts on my stitches as recommended by my midwife to speed up healing 😊 if you look up salt sitz baths people really recommend them so they’re fine to use

@Emily Id read about those that's why I thought it might be ok, do you think lavender scented ones are alright or should I get some plain ones? Any brand you'd recommend? Do you just have a normal bath or a bowl in the toilet?

I think just plain is better but I don’t think them being scented would hurt 😊 so I fill the bath like just enough to cover the area and throw in 3-4 handfuls then sit for 10 mins. I was doing it twice a day originally but now doing once as my stitches don’t hurt now. With my first birth I had 2 lots of stitches and healed so well and I honestly think that’s why so have been doing it for a fortnight this time around xx
