Tax credit

Hi all, was told today by a mom about the tax credit but online seems very complicated. Never had apply for any funding/benefits so not sure where to start. Can anyone help to understand more? My partner and I get good salaries (80k and 90k) so not sure if that would be an issue but if we are entitled to some childcare would appreciate your help.

We earn similar amounts as a family. The only thing you can get is tax free childcare and funded childcare hours. You apply for this through your government gateway account. Once you have a nursery chosen etc and presumable baby is over 9 months. You can start to claim. You pay your nursery through the account / then the government ‘top up’ the account to a maximum of £2000 per year dependent on how much you pay in. For the 15/ 30 free hours you will given a 11 digit code. You give that to nursery and the hours come off your bill.

@Naomi thank you! Mine is 1month and was told i can use it from now :/

I think you can claim the tax free element now but not the free hours. Assuming you’re back at work or back in the next 30 days.

Tax free I think you can claim as soon as soon you basically start working. The funded hours are the term after they turn 9 months and you are back at work.
