I also give him ready brek - which is supplemented with calcium.
@Caitlin aww amazing! She first had oat milk but then it was going through her, then the same with soya milk, she wouldn't even entertain the almond milk, even tried the chocolate flavoured ones and I just don't think she likes the texture🙈 she can eat most food that contains milk she just gets an upset stomach/rash with cheese and yoghurts so we stopped at that point on the milk ladder, I've found asda do coconut milk yoghurts which contain half her daily recommended calcium so hoping she gets enough, it just worried me because the dietician said she should be getting enough through food such as salmon and kale, but she doesn't have that😂
Aww that's great! I haven't actually started my little boy on the milk ladder yet, I should do soon really though. Sounds like a good option ☺️ my little one seems to like coconut stuff too! You could always add chaia seeds to yoghurt, they're high in calcium 😊 I used to give my little one tinned salmon and tinned sardines too as they have little bones in them that are very soft, so high in calcium too, he doesn't seem too keen on that these days though! Broccoli is a good one for calcium too 😊
Oh I'll try the chaia seeds thank you! It's crazy how much their taste buds change already isn't it, she refuses to eat brocoli now!🤦🏻♀️
Yes! Luckily my little one so far eats most things he's offered, but I'm sure this will change at some point 😅
Does your little one like tofu? You can get calcium set tofu, the brand Cauldron is what we use. It’s really good! Tahini is also a good source of calcium, we add it into pasta sauces for our son. Again if your child wont drink milk, could you make pasta sauces, curry sauces etc that contain milk? Or baked goods, muffins, cheese pinwheels. Pinterest honestly is so good for inspo!
@Bex she has a cows milk allergy and can't have cheese/yoghurts and some pasta sauces she's also reacted to. I've never tried her with tofu tbh so that's a shout thank you!
Yess I understand that, my little one is vegan, i meant vegan yoghurts, cheeses, they are all dairyfree etc. xx
@Bex she loves the coconut milk yoghurts from asda but they have little range of yoghurts and only have the one flavour, I'll definitely try tescos! Yeah I noticed there wasn't much calcium in the cheeses so hadn't tried her with dairy free ones as I've also heard they weren't very nice snd didn't want to put her off lol! Thank you xx
My little one has never had any alternative milk, he has CMPA too and is still breastfed. I try giving him small amounts of almond milk but he's not particularly bothered about it. I think he gets enough calcium from his diet anyway.
