Milk transition

Hi! My son’s turning 1 in 2 days, how should I transition him from breastmilk to cows milk? He’s been exclusively breastfed since he was 2 weeks, never used formula after that so I’m not sure how he would react to new milk? How much oz should I give him for the first time? Do I split it w water or breastmilk? Ftm n im so confused 😩 pic of my cutie patootie just cuz 🙂‍↕️

Can you not continue to breastfeed this next year?

I just want to say he's so darn handsome ❤

@Steamtrane Family respectfully I do not want to breastfeed longer than I have to. I want to have him weaned off by at least 15 months. Absolutely love breastfeeding but it’s making me lose to much weight n is very mentally/ physically exhausting for me💗

@Angel🌺 fair enough, that makes complete sense. It's hard work, good for you. I'm not able to assist with such as I'm still feeding

@Ky thank you so much!🩵 he’s his dads twin🙄 9 months just to look like his dad gave birth instead

My supply unfortunately started dropping a lot and my freezer supply was slimming. I started mixing it with breast milk. Started off just adding 1 oz of cows milk to 4/5 of breast milk and then 2. It only took maybe 2 weeks and my LO is drinking more cows milk then breast milk in the bottles now.

@Angel🌺 Hi!! I feel the same about being ready close out the breastfeeding journey. I started by spreading out his nursing sessions by 30 minutes/hour. We are now at 2-3 sessions per day (morning & before bed and sometimes in the middle of the day). I didn't substitute with whole but more dairy snacks. For example, he has a smoothie as a morning snack with whole milk Greek yogurt and whole milk (and some fruit). And in the afternoon I offer him another dairy snack like cottage cheese, babybel/string cheese, yogurt pouch, etc I also decided to just try giving him some whole milk (in a straw cup) with his dinner one night and he downed the whole thing! So I can offer it with his meals on days when I feel like he isn't getting enough dairy. As long as you are offering plenty of dairy you don't actually have to offer milk.

@Tanya yes! Recently I noticed my supply has dropped, still enough to feed him but not as much as I was making. My son will not take bottles at all he only uses sippy cups. Thank you!!

@Ann Marie I feel so bad about wanting to stop my breastfeeding journey cuz I love it, but I’m honestly so over it now. My son also breastfeeds about 3 times a day, morning, afternoon nap, n bed time. My problem is I breastfeed him to sleep so I’m scared of the transition of him depending on me, he also uses me as a pacifier during the nights maybe about 3 or 4 times during the night. I’m just so touched out n done being on call 24/7 it’s messing up my sleep schedule so bad

@Angel🌺 ahhhh ya, that is so hard! I would recommend starting with the overnight feeds! For weaning that I would go in 2 twice a night at set times (11 pm & 3 am) and slowly reduced the amount of time I would nurse him until we got down to two minutes (1 minute each side) and then I stopped feeding after that. We did do sleep training but understand that it isn't for everyone so you could try and find a different soothing technique instead nursing Once my little guy started sleeping through the night it was life changing! I feel like a person again and not like a shell of who I used to be

@Ann Marie thank you so much! My son sleeps thru the night he just will move or cry for me until I give him my breast then goes right back to sleep within 1-2 mins

i just transitioned him by cutting it into quarters until it was all whole milk. Example would be like 2 ounces of whole milk then pump if you can and then the rest would be breast milk and keep going until he’s on full whole milk

Hiii my baby just turned 1 Sunday and I was also nervous but she was fine she actually really likes it and no bad reactions so far

We did cold turkey starting with 2 oz and then increased by 1 oz every day
