Formula - Afternoon Clusters

Hi ladies, I've been bottle-feeding (combination) my little one since the beginning I find that his feeding schedule overnight and in the morning is quite regular but in the afternoons he gets grumpy every 1-1.5 hours... overall he doesn't exceed 12 bottles in 24 hours but I wonder if anyone else is experiencing something similar at around 4 weeks mark? I don't want him to get an upset tummy being fed too frequently and I also find that breastmilk definitely not keeping him as full as formula does, I'm at the verge of giving up on BF for that reason and do formula exceptionally... I'm just not sure why or if it's normal, I'd love to hear if anyone is having a similar experience... Thank you! 🙂🙏🏻

Hey, I’ve been combo feeding my little boy who is 7, nearly 8 weeks. I found at 4 weeks and again at 6/7 weeks he had a growth spurt that increased feeds during the day. We use formula overnight as he seems to sleep better, in the day he is breastfed mostly. Are you expressing at all? I’ve found when he gets to those more frequent feeds that a small top up bottle shortly after a feed can help at times, sometimes it’s only 30-60ml as a top up if he’s already just had a feed, whereas his normal bottles at night are 120ml

Yep my little girl does this, during the day she has a bottle every 2.5 to 3 hours but in the evening she gets fussy for a bottle more frequently, like 1.5 to 2 hours instead. My HV said some babies like to tank up before the evening.

@Beth we had the growth spurt beginning of week 3, luckily he's not as grumpy this time around but just hungry haha ~ I express breast milk indeed, not much of a supply to be honest as it's max 2 feeds a day and most days just 1... the rest is formula and I use breast milk as top up if he gets grumpy too soon after a feed 🥲 I guess it's just hunger after all, good to know

@Priya I think this is exactly what's happening! good to hear that it's normal for some babies ☺️ thank you!
