Screen detox

Has anyone done a “screen detox” in your home? Please share activities that you have replaced screen time with. I’m not entirely against screens but since the winter I have wanted to reduce that time in the house. Please note I’m talking Other than outside activities because we live in the Midwest and it’s still a bit cold, we go out when we can. Also if you’re a SAHM, do you have a loose schedule that you have with the kids to keep them on track throughout the day? Please share thank you!

I would suggest a yoto player (we like the mini)

We do books, individual play time (toy rotation!), playdoh, painting/coloring, and you can find the inspired minds app is great for fun activities all based on ages. Yes we have a pretty strict schedule in that we do random stuff throughout the day but we always have nap at 12pm. So we do breakfast, play, snack/play, nap time, lunch/early dinner, play, snack, bedtime. I work 4 days a week in the evenings and my husband handles bedtime.

Tactile stuff like PlayDough. Blocks / MagnaTiles + little toys is always a hit, my boys love making things and having the toys explore their creations. Coloring, painting, etc. Pillow and blanket forts. We put up the old crib mattress against the wall and my boys bounce around their padded room like crazy haha! We also love to do Creature from the Depths where my husband and/or I stick our heads under the sheets at the foot of our bed and pretend to be a sea monster dragging the kids to the bring deep! If your kids are old enough, they could do something like those big dull needle embroidery kits or friendship bracelets. If there's snow, I fill a big tub with it and give them kitchen tools to play with. It's also important to set an example. You can't tell the kids not to watch screens then stare at your phone. My husband and I like to read aloud to each other instead of watching TV.

Puzzles, arts and crafts, sand table, water table
