Rusk/Cereals in Bottles

Guys, please can everyone give me their opinion on the above.. I just had a big argument with my partner over it. He told me to put a bit of rusk in her bottle (his mum use to do it with him and his siblings) As far as I’ve known, they’re more commonly known as knock out bottles - to make them sleep through the night - baby girl sleeps absolutely fine in the night so there’s absolutely no need for it anyway… But has anyone done this, reasons why? Why not? Etc?

It’s a choking hazard. If you want to give rusk or cereal, serve in its intended purpose and not in a bottle.

@Annabel thank you! Just wanted to make sure I wasn’t going crazy by saying no 💀

It used to be common practice but our understanding of baby digestive system and potential risks has developed and now NHS advises against it, I personally wouldn't do it either. Any food other than milk is an extra 'challenge' for their developing digestive systems - movement during the day (rolling, sitting up, tummy time etc.) helps the food to pass along the digestive tract which makes it a bit easier for them As mentioned it is also a choking hazard and can contribute to tooth decay once their teeth are out too

To add to above .. they have very little nutritional value x

Don’t do it. It’s a choking hazard and babies don’t need anything added to their formula bottles. X

1. Choking hazard 2. They don't make babies sleep anymore than just milk does 3. Unless 6 months old it's not advised to give solids at all and I wouldn't use rusks or cereals for starting weaning with as there's no nutritional benefit and also a choking risk unless soaked properly to a mush 4. Its not the done thing thesedays so you're absolutely correct in saying no xx
