Putting hands in diaper

Hi all My lo is constantly putting hands in diaper and pulls on his pee pee. Most times he feels irritated and scratchy due to pee in diaper and accidentally there has been incident when there is poop too. I really don’t know what to do please keep me. We want to start potty training but biggest challenge is that he is speech delayed , he is slowly picking up words. But still it’s a non communicative situation for us. I am quite not confident. Even if we want to do potty training how should we do it. Really need some advice mommas please help😪

Are they interested in the potty? Not necessarily that they talk, but curiosity about the toilet etc? Do they respond to reading? We have several board books about going potty. Daniel tiger has one if they like Daniel tiger. Do they use signs at all? The one for potty is pretty simple and you could work on teaching them that if they've picked up other signs. My little one isn't delayed but was slow at first to pick up language so signs were very helpful. You can also let them go into the bathroom with you or Dad. My MIL teachers special needs preschool and that is advice she gives to many of the kids parents. If you do that, you could have a little potty for them to sit on, just let them sit on it at first to get used to it.

(we are in pull-ups and aren't fully potty trained over here. There are plenty of 2.5 year olds that aren't there yet so you aren't alone)

@Miriam how should I prevent put his hand in diaper If he feels little bit of wet he immediately touches his pee pee and try to scratch it We showed to doc he doesn’t have any infection or anything He just want to put his hand in diaper

Have you heard of letting him go around the house bare bottom? And you take him to the potty every 30 min or so… stretching the time as he gets better at it
