Potty training

Hey, So our daughter is 3yrs and 4months old. We started to potty training last year and every time we got somewhere a sickness bug would come out of nowhere and we'd lose all progress. We said we'd try again during Christmas/new year. All failed attempts.. It's now march and we are out of ideas. She seems genuinely scared to go potty or toilet. Not sure what to do at this point.. please tell me we're not alone in this?? Any advice appreciated

I have similar issues with my son. I’ve been trying on and off since last Easter. He has a fear of going. He will occasionally sit but won’t actually do anything. Over Christmas we had him hold his wee for hours on end until he became really distressed and struggled to go so had to backtrack. At preschool he will often hold it whilst he’s there from 9-2 and then go in a nappy when he gets home. I really don’t know what to do with him at this point. I’m expecting my second next month so was really hoping this would have been resolved by then.

Hey, thank you for replying. I've got friends who's children are just a few weeks younger than my daughter and there all potty trained. I honestly thought it would be easy to get her to go as she picks things up very quickly but we're really struggling. I don't understand why there's fear with it. We've done everything positively. Rewards. Stickers. Clapping. Just not sure what to do now. So thank you for letting me know we're not the only ones having difficulty x

My son is the same age and has been toilet trained for 1 year almost now. You need to distract her on the potty/toilet by toys, reading books, snacks etc. Try get her to sit on the toilet every 20 mins /half hour or so. Lots of praise when they do something and rewards. Prepare for accidents

@Rebecca does your son now tell you when he had to go toilet or does he just go himself? I think we're struggling so much with it because she's going to nursery full time as me and hubby work full time so it's hard to find the time to do so. X

@Jane he just goes by himself now. The nursery will help with toilet training too so don't worry
