Pedia-Lax Chewable Laxatives
I give prebiotic gummies daily. But it seems it's something else with her diet š¤
i hate to be the person to say miralax but it has absolutely saved us. once my son realized that passing stool can hurt he started withholding stool and would not let himself poop at all.
If you are able to call the doctor, they might be able to help- they might give a smaller concentration of miralax (my daughter, 7 was suggested for half a cap) or some other medication suggestions that take into consideration your childās age and weight. Juice usually gets my son, 2, to have a BM. Pediatrician told us for my daughter- āonce a constipator, always a constipator.ā Apparently, some kids just have slower gut motility. Stress can be a cause, so trying to help them relax at bathroom time (or in general if still in diapers) may help. I also suggest laying them flat on their back and bicycling their legs. This is something that worked when my daughter was younger.
My 4 year old has gone through this here and there. One thing that helps is making sure there is enough fruits and vegetables in the diet. I also am somewhat militant about water and hydration. My kid actually likes prunes. So, she gets 1-2 a day. Probiotics can be helpful too. We have needed to do a colon cleanse with Miralax when it got particularly bad.
We have to limit the number of bananas he eats. If he doesn't poop for 3 days we were told to add a tsp of relaxastore to his milk/water once a day
Nurse here I wouldnāt give laxative unless doctors says itās okay
My daughter struggled with constipatikn and they told me she was just afraid because of her experiences before we thought it was dairy too but she was just overall scared to poop I didnāt like the idea of miralax we did give it tk her initially but now she takes magnesium in her juice or in her milk eveeeyday and she goes every single day we use the constipation pack from Dr kilbane a registered physician with a website and my friend took her daughter to her sheās a pediatrician https://store.sheilakilbane.com/products/hkhm-advanced-magnesium-180-capsules-1?_pos=1&_psq=magnesium&_ss=e&_v=1.0&variant=43801639059700 I put the link I use the magnesium powder and throw about a quarter of the scooper in her milk or juice in the mornings once a day for maintenance but if she gets backed up or hasnāt gone in a day or two I give her one full scoop and it clears her out I had to figure out what dose was best for her body to give her on a daily basis without giving her dhiarreah
At first we gave her a half to full until she wasnāt scared anymore and the doctor said that was perfect and that she didnāt care if it was watery as long as she was going and then I pulled back once she got comfortable with pooping and she stopped locking her legs clenching her cheeks and she would squat and now she happily goes and isnāt afraid of the size anymore but it took months to get her comfortable now itās either a full turd or a pasty mashed potato consistency and weāre happy that sheās popping Magnesium overall is great for her body and itās natural we even started incorporating magnesium into our own diets once she started
We also got these chewable probiotic tablets from sprouts that we tell her is candy and she has that as well
@Brittany What would you suggest as a nurse?
I was trying to juice and fruit. Medications should be checked with the doctor first. You could try prune juice too first.
@Mileena Omg, I think this may be the issue with my daughter. She's been dealing with honestly her whole life and I think she's getting anxiety behind it cuz she's like tensing up and I think that's making it harder for herš¢ I'm going to try that. Thanks alot
Same for my daughter literally since she was six month old and she was around 10 months when we took her to a GI who said she was just scared and prescribed her mirlax everyday and once she turned a little over one we transitioned to the magnesium and sheās been on it ever since! We donāt give it to her if she has a stomach bug that causes dhiarreah we usually wait for example she had norovirus that gave her pretty gnarly dhiarreah and she wasnāt on it for two weeks and she was fine and then once we knew for sure it was out of her system the stayed back on the magesium Ifnshe hasnāt gone in daysssssssss and sheās pooping our little pebbles and not even the magnesium is working which is rare then I know sheās withholding and I do a enema but enemas are a very very last resort bevgase the doctor told me she could end up with an expanded anal cavity which is a whole other problem to fix

@Brittany Ok. Thank you..I think it may be a combination of her current diet and anxiety so I'll try mixing up her diet
@Mileena Ooh ok that makes sense...that's a good plan..I'm going try all of that
Youāre welcome. I hope she feels better soon
I would increase fiber and water intake! Most people don't get in enough fiber, and it tends to be even harder if you have picky eaters š© dates and fruit are a great place to start because they're sweet and typically easier to eat than veggies. Maybe try blending some veggies into sauces and adding to meals like pasta š
There are certain foods that are āsolidifiersā where they harden poop. I noticed if my toddler eats them together, she becomes constipated. You can remember it by the first letters BRAT: bananas, rice, applesauce, toast. If my toddler has bananas, toast, and applesauce togetherā¦ itās bad constipation every time. Something to look out for.

Juice? My toddler poops easily with juice. If not that call doctor and ask about other options. Blueberryās are good for popping too
