Travel system or separate car seat?

Hi! I’m a first time mum due in early June, and slowly starting to look into all the gear that we will need. I was just wondering what’s everyone’s opinion, experiences, or recommendations on getting a full travel system, or buying a push chair and car seat separately? Safety wise, practicality etc. Thank you!

I personally think it's practical to get a travel system. 2 for the price of 1, instead of 2 diffrent prices that could possibly cost more 🤷🏽‍♀️ No problems with it. Very safe.

Separate… most travel system have crap car seats . I have Ickle bubba stomp luxe which is amazing but the car seat was very crap so had to buy a whole new car seat so deffo separate xx

Second what Justina said. Travel system car seats are normally not the best fit especially if baby ends up being early or on the smaller side. Normally best to get a separate one like Cybex or something.

All I would say is make sure your car seat comes with adapters which work with your pram. It has been an absolute god send being able to simply lift my baby in his car seat asleep onto the pram and wheel him off without waking him .. and vice versa x

Initially purchased a graco travel system and while for me the car seat was great because I loved the click connect from the base (in the car) to the stroller, I actually really disliked the toddler seat (the toddler seat is only for the stroller). Had to removed the toddler seat and collapse the stroller each time to stowaway into the trunk. I would say any conversion into a toddler seated stroller could potentially end up as a waste. The entire stroller system then becomes more cumbersome. I preferred having an umbrella stroller by the time my babe outgrew his infant car seat. It was easier to cart around especially when he decided he would no longer tolerate a stroller lol

A lot of the time the travel systems have not the best car seats that comes included so depends on the brand but I recently found out a shop called house of bebe does travel systems where they do diffrent car seats in the bundles so could be worth a look depending on where your based or the deleivery etc

I've had 3 kids and I can tell you it's better to have a good buggy and separate car seat. With my third I opted for Oyster 3 buggy only (no carry cot) with Cybex Cloud T (lie flat carseat). I'm currently using this now and I love it.

We got a travel system, got ours from mamas and papas and got the flipxt3 and the cybex cloud T car seat with isofix base which was much cheaper

We never got a travel system, we thought it was silly to buy a car seat that we’d be replacing within 6-9 months. We bought a joie 360 ispin and it’s been great from birth and felt so secure compared to the smaller travel system car seats. But, at times it’s been so frustrating not being able to take the car seat out and put onto a frame! If we’ve needed to quickly nip into a shop and she was asleep it’s been so annoying to have to take her out and put her in a carrier or pram. We saw people taking babies into appointments etc fast asleep and we did think at the time maybe we made the wrong decision (coming from a parent with a baby that struggled with sleep 😂)

I vote travel system it's been great for us x

Travel system. Being able to take baby out of the car in the capsule is so handy and depending on the brand can be just as safe as a fixed car seat. I would advise going into a shop and trying folding them up with the bassinet, car seat and toddler seat and seeing how easy it is to swap between. Ours was a pain with the bassinet but now he's in the seat it's so much easier as that doesn't need detaching to fold up.

Travel system has been amazing for me. We got the cybex gazelle travel system with the cybex cloud t car seat. The car seat can last up until 2 years of ages dependant on babies height and weight. I love the fact it lies flat in the pram too.

Seperate car seat 100% x

We got a Joie travel system and it's been so convenient being able to put his car seat onto the pram.

I bought a travel system initially but regretted it. Sold the car seat to get a better one before baby arrived. Edited to add you can get adaptors for some car seats to go onto different strollers, ours actually came with this but we never used it as didn’t want baby in car seats longer than necessary.

Although I prefer a separate travel system now in hindsight, I do think having the ability to put the car seat onto the stroller frame was a huge benefit. So if you might prefer this flexibility, maybe be prepared to have to get another car seat in the second half of their first year, which you may not 100% need or want to but it is a possibility.

I was personally of the mindset i would never use it as a travel system, so i wouldn’t add the car seat onto base of pram as babies can only be in their car seat for half an hour at a time. So would of previously said unless its the car/seat pram combo you want anyway don’t bother. However, my baby is now four months and still in his infant carrier car seat but it’s now so so heavy for me to carry, i use the attachment to the pram a lot more. It’s so handy for things like walking into a class, as it means i don’t have to faff getting him out the car, or worry about carrying him & all my other stuff. I also use it for the health visitor appointments (again literally from the car, into reception, into the room). For that i would really recommend it. You do however get car seats and prams that have universal adaptors and work together even if you don’t buy a bundle😌 You can join the bump to booster facebook group for support on car seats

Separate car seat all the way. Just get adapters so it fits your buggy as well.

I got a travel system and not once in the 7.5mo my baby has been around have I attached the car seat to the stroller. If I shop, I prefer the baby carrier and if I go for a walk, I prefer the bassinet the stroller has because it’s more comfortable for baby and if baby sleeps on the walk they shouldn’t be in a car seat. I see the value of a travel system, but in real life it didn’t end up being useful

I want to add to my reply that even though the car seat is heavy (and it is!) I just take baby out and carry her. The stroller frame takes up so much room in my small car that it isn’t convenient to bring just to attach the car seat to go to appointments or wherever. Instead I just carry her. If you have a bigger vehicle that might be different.

We decided on a separate car seat because just from a waste perspective it didn’t make sense to us to have to replace it in a few months or a year etc. Our car seat should last until around age 4. I’m also not a fan of travel system car seats because I think it encourages people to leave their babies in them for longer than the recommended time.

I just got the Maxi-Cosi travel system. I feel it’s better to just have both. I’m a first time mom.

I bought a travel system, worked perfectly for me, I just made sure not to leave him in it for 2 long (my widwife said no longer than 2 hours at a time) if I was going out for the day I'd switch between the carrier and car seat

We have a separate car seat and specifically chose one that will last until he’s four years old. Also choosing separate car seat and stroller allows you to choose the best for your situation.

Separate. Buy a new car seat and a secondhand pram. Most prams have cataract adaptors so you'll still be able to use them together

I got the mamas and papas travel system (cybex car seat) but we probably attached it to the frame a handful of times if that, as our baby was a terrible sleeper who didn’t stay asleep in his car seat once the car stopped moving. I’ve just bought the Joie I-spin 360 and I much prefer that car seat to the cybex one, plus it’s cheaper and can be used birth-4 years. I’ve got a Renault Captur and the Joie seat is much more compact in comparison to the cybex and just feels like it fits in the car better. In hindsight I probably would have just gotten a lovely pram/stroller and then Joie car seat separately- but hindsight is a very fine thing for a first time mum haha 😂
