Miltons sterilising

Very random question but i feel like I’m wasting the 5litres of Miltons I use daily for sterilising. And as my water bill has gone up £20 a month, I feel i need to try save as much as possible. Has anyone watered their plants or garden with it?

Surely sterilising your child's bottles is worth the money? It's not really waste but can you not invest in a steam/UV steriliser? I know that's using electricity. What bottles are you using? Can you sterilise them in the microwave. Also the Milton water is good for 24 hours so you can get 2 days out of it, so for example fill it up at 12pm and dispose of it the following day at the same day that way you can get 2 days technically out of it x

You could use them for weeds, as it's diluted bleach, or if your baby has white clothing use it for that to

I wouldn’t use it for gardening as it’s a light bleach. You can use it for stains on clothing and some cleaning though

Was going to say the same as @Lauryn x

That’s concerning we sterilise our babies bottles in bleach 😅😂

Would your bottles fit in 2.5 litres? We started doing that a few weeks in with similar concerns. Things need to be in it just for 15 min ahead of use as far as I remember, so you can maybe take turns to put them in?

@Rhiannon Obviously it’s worth the money to sterilise my son’s bottles. I wasn’t saying that. I get 24hours use out of it, but pouring the 5litres away just made me wonder if i could use it for something else as well. Thankyou though x

@tugba Ohh yeah, i didn’t even think of that. I forgot the markings were already on the bucket aswell. Thankyou x

@Kas I always think the same too. However, i do pour boiling water over the teats just to rinse off the Miltons. Not sure if it makes any difference 😂

@Kas I thought this when I googled what was in the Milton tablets when someone said you could use them for white shoes and clothing

We chuck ours over the outdoor patio. Really helping with cleaning the tiles and it is also starting to stop the cats coming to pee there! Also used it to clean with when deep cleaning the kitchen and bathroom. I also use it to soak toys in that need a clean. Works great on bath toys. I use it when it's past the 24 hours as this is for cleaning not sterilising.

Make a smaller batch? When my boy dropped down to a few less bottles I used the travel steriliser and 1/4 of a tablet and just did one bottle at a time, take 1 out put the new one in.

I use nuby UV LIGHT steriliser

Either pour it down the toilet or leave in another bucket to soak stained clothes. Pour it into a spray bottle and use that as a surface cleaner. You can save water if you steamed though. Steaming only needs 1inch water but takes longer, takes me 20mins to steams an sterilise everything. If you’re not using too many bottles you can do a half batch of water and either cut the tabs in half or buy the liquid. I steam on the stove so I’m using gas not electricity I don’t have a microwave steamer when I steam I do it on stove.
