Do I need a bigger car, or can I cope with what I have??

I have a vauxhall corsa sxi. It's a 3-door with not the biggest boot. We have a 2 year old and are due baby 2 in August. We don't really have the money, but could mayyybe scrap it up from somewhere or with help. Would we be able to cope with this car, or do we need another? Please comment any cars that are cheap to run and big enough (UK based).

I just got rid of my 5-door corsa because we were struggling with only 1 child and my massive husband. I sold the car back to arnold Clark and bought an older car. I got a 2014 Vauxhall insignia estate, it's in great condition, has a massive boot, and loads of room for car seats. Insurance and tax where the same as my corsa, it does cost a little more in fuel because it's diesel but if you don't do loads of running around you'll be fine.

@Jayde how much difference is the cost to fill up with diesel??

About £20 However, I get about an extra 150 miles, so it evens out. But there are a lot more cost-effective cars out there that aren't so big I'd you don't need a massive boot. We need to store the pram and some other stuff in the car because we have the smallest house ever.

I had to trade in my Focus ST (regret this big time) for a Ford Kuga but we do have a lot more space. Plus a roof box for when we go away you couldn’t wish for more space. A 3 door car I can imagine is hard work with car seats and getting baby in and out, with two you will likely struggle a lot for space for a pushchair (double maybe?) and two car seats

I had a 3 door corsa, got rid within 2 months of my second being born as it was so inconvenient getting 2 kids out of a small 3 door car and could barely fit the pram in the boot x

I had a corsa for a while when my second child was born, it was a 5 door and not used as the main car as my partner had the bigger car. I coped fine however if it was the main car it definitely would have been too small especially if it was a 3 door

In struggling with my Peugeot 208 5 door so I'd recommend at least 5 door. I had a Citroen c3 before (it got wrote off) that seemed slightly more spacious in the back x

I didn't read properly and clicked can cope but I don't think I could with a 3 door car! I would recommend a Honda jazz if you still want a small city car and cheap to run. I love mine, the boot is much bigger than most similar size cars and it's very reliable. I love mine!

I’d also recommend a golf, I had one a few months ago and loved it (had to get a refund from the dealer due to an issue). It was big enough without being too big. I’d definitely get another one for my next car x

I have a Hyundai Sante fe but that is a big car. Fits the pram, car seat and two big dogs in quite nicely with room for luggage. But expensive to run! I love it but the tax is a lot and it doesn’t fit in car parking spaces (the doors can’t be opened as it is too big) so impractical in many ways as well. I’ve heard good things about the Kia sportage and Hyundai palisade though and decent size but not huge! My other car is a puegot 108 and 5 door and fits the car seat And a pram but it is a very tight squeeze (it wouldn’t fit a second car seat though) I’ve only tried my stuff in for size though or on collection as not due till July. Can you do a bit of a test with it with a second car seat and stuff you’d need? Then see how you feel Best of luck!

I would definitely get rid of it. We had a 3door Corsa as a temp car for 3 months and struggled massively with the space. Personally I would recommend a Peugeot 308. Great back seat space and boot space is massive x

Thank you everyone, it's really helpful having a few different car types to look at!! I really appreciate it

Too small, I don't know how anyone copes with a 3 door car when you have car seats! I highly recommend Dacia! They're brilliant and so affordable! I have a 2.5 year old Duster, its brilliant and so spacious!

I have a three door truck that I’m gonna start with with my first born, but if I were to have a second baby, I would probably look at getting another car. Which I’m probably gonna look at getting a different car anyways because I have a dog. However, I wouldn’t say that it’s an emergency, you could probably cope with it for now, but, you might wanna think about looking for another one. Facebook marketplace tends to have some pretty decent cars, you could look for a trade with your current car. I know money can be tight, so it’s tough.
