Stupid question maybe

I’m making my baby a 5oz bottle and after adding formula it ends up going to 6oz line.. so would I consider it a 5oz or 6oz bottle …

you definitely measure after mixing the formula. its 6oz

Only reason I believe it’s 6 is because when my baby eats his ‘5 oz bottle’ at daycare, I get a notification that says “Bennett drank 6 oz!” That could just be how THEY do it though I’m not sure

really important to measure after especially if you have a preemie or medically complex baby, don’t wanna overfeed

You only measure the water volume so that’s before you add the powder. It’s just displacement as the powder adds volume

@Tiara Literally. Why is everyone saying it’s 5oz😂

If you add 5 scoops of formula then it’s a 5oz bottle. The rest is just water displacement that’s added by the volume of powder x

@Tiara depends on the formula instructions. In the UK you have to measure your water first and a 5oz bottle will come to nearly 6oz on the bottle measure once the powder is added

@Kristina you always measure the water first, but it does not equal the final measurement lol

@Julia depends on formula

@Tiara no but if you use 5oz of water to make it and 5 scoops of powder it’s a 5oz bottle .. the volume only increases because the powder displaces. It’s always the scoops and amount of water you use initially not the final result after displacement

@Megan okay obviously the volume is increasing because of the powder…the final product is similar to that of breastmilk-you wouldn’t only measure the water content of your breastmilk 💀

@Tiara if you’re using 5 scoops and pouring the water up to 5oz before you add the powder it’s a 5oz bottle it’s simple science 😂

@Megan you measure after

@Megan why would u only measure your babies water intake, it makes no sense

You measure before, in the uk you do anyway. The extra you get from displacement isn’t extra fluid it’s just extra volume that’s why

@Tiara it says on the tin how many scoops to oz of water 😅 usually it’s 1 scoop to 1oz/30mls of water

@Megan formula and breastmilk both have about 87% water…you aren’t just measuring the water in formula for intake you count it after mixing. Of course you’re measuring the water to know how many scoops to add-i never denied that, its just not the final intake amount.

@Megan just because your formula says 5oz to 5 scoops doesn’t equate to that being the final intake measure…every tin says how much water per scoop? obviously

@Tiara you definitely don’t in the uk. So we’ll just have to agree to disagree on this

@Tiara yeah so it’s 5oz water where are you getting the extra water from? 🤣🤣

@Megan i never said theres extra water.

@Megan do you tho

@Tiara obv where you live it’s different to everywhere else

@Tiara I will hun thanks

@Megan its common sense-i dont believe all of uk does that i think youre confused. You measure after. Ive already proven my statement and read many articles that also state the same. By your logic you wouldn’t count 5oz of breastmilk as 5oz, you would only count the water content. Since formula is the same as breastmilk after mixed you count all of it??? whats not clicking lol this would be like only counting 87% of the ounces of breastmilk you feed your baby-makes no sense. 😂

@Megan also your response before was telling me the amount of water to scoops as if how much water it tells you to use means the final intake amount? thats just how to make it girl not the final measurement.

@Tiara jeez 🤣 .. just fyi formula isn’t the same as breast milk to start with so you’ve deffo not done your research there 😅 .. there’s no liquid in powder it’s a solid so you only measure the liquid. Breast milk doesn’t dissolve or disperse to add extra volume. So what’s not clicking with you?

@Megan Im saying the nutritional composition is the same. god

@Megan im saying you wouldnt only count the water content-your child is intaking other things-it doesn’t matter if its considered liquid or not.

@Tiara other people from the uk have said the same above so it’s clearly different in the uk to where you’re from

@Megan Even if all of UK thinks otherwise it doesn’t make sense? you’re ignoring everything else in the formula when counting final intake which can cause problems in preemies or medically complex children due to possible overfeeding.

@Tiara okay dr tiara you should come and tell the nhs how it should be done 😂 it definitely makes sense, I have no idea what you’re even counting? You’ve lost me now tbh given up 🤣

@Tiara You measure before you make the bottle. So if you put 5oz of water in your baby is having 5oz of formula regardless of if the liquid is up to 6oz. You measured out 5oz of water therefore it’s a 5oz bottle. If you measured 7oz of water and added 7oz of formula then it is a 7oz bottle. The extra volume is from the powder displacement because it adds extra volume. I had a premature baby that wasn’t gaining weight and I was told by doctors, by midwives and by the paediatricians to measure the water before I added the formula in. What @Megan is saying is correct and you clearly haven’t done your research🙄 This comment section is honestly hurting my head and the fact that the majority of people voted 5oz just proves you wrong☺️

@Julia thank you finally some sense haha 🤣

@Megan regardless of displacement the ounces increase after mixing. Most of the time it’s .2 ounces per scoop.

@Julia of course you were told to measure the water before adding the formula lol when did i say not to measure the water. Im saying its not the final intake measurement.

@Julia Also if you use peanut polls to distinguish fact from fiction thats wild lol

If you counted how many ounces of water only, you could be off by the recommended range of intake ie. (16-32 oz per 24 hours) your baby might be over fed, but probably not because babies stop when they’re full. So the point is mute

@Megan Honestly makes you wonder sometimes this app

@Megan you’re definitely correct 😂😂 Funny the things people will choose to argue over!

Ashley literally posted the back of their formula tin earlier explaining exactly what i’m saying lol wtf

@Tiara No I distinguish the people that have more common sense. As for facts I use the NHS website as well as what multiple doctors have told when I asked the exact same question so🤔 Also I’m not arguing over something that I’ve been told by multiple medical professionals due to have a premature baby so I’ll stick with the facts and information that they have told me which consists of what I said in my earlier comment☺️ Have a good day! Bye bye👋🏼

@Julia you literally said “I was told by doctors, by midwives and by the paediatricians to measure water before I added formula in”. Like ok? duh when did i deny that?

@N 💞 @Julia definitely leaving it there I guess you can’t cure stupid can you 😅 …the magic oz that just appears haha!

@Megan How am I stupid when it literally says it on the back of the formula tin which someone posted. If you’re gonna leave it then leave it don’t indirectly call me names like a coward.
