There are plenty of extending rear facing car seats. You just won’t find them in high street stores. Look up brands such as axkid, or be safe or britax have a fair few too x

Most harnessed seats stops at 18kg. FF isn't advised until at least 5. We have a rear facing seat up to 25kg. I would recommend joining car seat safety UK on facebook. They can recommend seats for age, weight and budget.
@Jo honestly it blows my mind that the law, and car seat companies, are so behind what is advised. I found some that although forward facing, had a harness limit of 25 kg. Then realised that these only meet the old safety reg and can't even be sold in the rest of the eu anymore... but the newer reg don't seem to have any beyond 22kg. It's so so ridiculous.
@Kayleigh the harness limit is 18kg rear or forward facing you cannot use the harness once your child is over 18kg I have an axkid mini kid 2 which is quite pricey but because I have 2 kids I’ll get a lot of use out of it, so figured it was worth the cost
Look up Britax Max Safe Pro. It's a highly tested RF seat and will last you. I have done a lot of research and know so many who were forward facing so young. 5 times safer to be RF I'm not taking any chances.
The laws desperately need updating and some companies will advise incorrectly because its legal doesn't make it safe.
My LO has been forward facing for a while now. There's no way he would tolerate being rear facing. We have a joie i-spin which says can be ff after a certain weight or age.
Are you able to go to one of the big stores that stock all the different ones? We went to one and they were able to give good advice. One in Camberly but I have no idea where that is from you. Was so worth going. Totally get the fiance part. We ended up opting for a forward facing one in the 2nd car which is used for pick up from nursery for that reason
I would highly recommend posting on the Car Seat Safety page on fb. They are really helpful https://www.facebook.com/groups/carseatsafetyuk/?ref=share
My son is very close to 18kg and I’m thinking the same thing! I think it’s rf until 18kg with most of the seats. As far as I’m aware you can turn them ff and still use the 5 point harness after 18kg I have the silver cross motion 360 I would love to get the axkid but also can’t afford it! Why is safety so expensive! I thought that I would be ok until at least 4 with this seat!
