Yeah exactly what @Raqi said. Unfortunately swim nappies are not designed to hold in pee, just poo and I can guarantee grown adults are peeing in there too.. chlorine makes it fine for us to swim in there. I only stopped my son swimming early on because his skin would react each time however, we joined a private spa with heated pools etc. and I got my son his own membership and he swims 2/3 times a week and his confidence in the water is incredible now! He tried to get himself in as soon as he sees it, he swims off by himself and has learned to do a lot by himself now! The benefits for sure outweigh the grossness
Yes pools are nasty, but as said above there is chlorine and I find it's so important for babies to know how to swim that I can forget about these things. Also you bath your baby after as well.
Chlorine is some strong shit lol!
Pools are gross but it's also fine
I mean they gross me out too but I just tell myself that the chemicals in there are killing everything off immediately and then try not to think too hard about it. Swimming is such an important life skill.
Denial. Denial. Denial. Fun and a good bath after. Not sure if this is helpful but I am guessing the chlorine makes all the germs and bacteria less of a risk than many other public play places.
Thanks all, I agree it’s super important for them to learn to swim!! Just can’t get the thought out of my head. Maybe it’s better if I leave them to it and don’t attend myself 🫠
@Kate yeah… I’m icky about soft plays too 🥴🥴 need to find a way around it!
@Shay where?? I’m in London too, will look around. That sounds so much better all around
It's important for them to interact with a bit of grossness. Their immune system needs opportunities to develop. If you constantly put them in perfectly clean sanitized environments you increase the risk of allergies and autoimmune disease. Recent research strongly suggests this. Not to personalise the immune system but honestly - it's a thing that's kept humans alive for millenia by being constantly vigilant for threats. Then you put it in an environment with zero threats. If you were the immune system you'd probably go crazy too and start looking for threats that aren't there. Historically, not perceiving threats didn't mean that the threats didn't exist, it meant that the immune system wasn't looking hard enough. No wonder it goes nuts and starts overreacting to silly things. Let babies eat dirt, swim in pools, and interact with lots of different environments. Chlorine/salt/etc will kill off the deadly stuff, and whatever else they're exposed to is way better than them choking to death on a peanut.
Just make sure it’s clean and unkept pool. I’ve gotten a UTI from a I’ll kept pool before 😖😭
Oh thanks for this 😭😭 my ocd just went through the roof.
@Carolyn I do understand and agree lol I’m not a complete germophobe just a little… having said that my immune system is fantastic. So far so is my littles. I just can’t get my head around certain things though, and the thought of being in contact with other people’s boldly fluids just sends my nervous system into a spiral. I’m working on it 🙌🏼

@Khadiijah you’re welcome LOL
Do you mean where is he swimming?
@Shay Which spa with pool?
As someone who grew up with a pool in my backyard... they are safe and not gross. The level of care and chemical is crazy. Also, public pools are tested hourly.
People are still gross, though, so be careful
We are at the crown plaza in docklands, just along the waters edge and cable carts
That's what the chlorine is for!
