@Beth oh boy! I’d def cry if it affects my sex drive cause I don’t joke with my sex life😂😂 How did you find it in these 5years? Did your period stop or become less as they say? Did you find it easy to conceive when you took it off? Because I would like to have another child in a couple of years just not now Also did it affect your weight in any way? These are my major concerns xx
I had the Mirena for about 5 years too. It didn't affect my sex drive but I did still have periods. They were very light and lasted about 5 days. I didn't gain weight from it. I had it removed February 2024, got pregnant in May, and just had my little girl in January. For me, it was more uncomfortable being removed than being inserted. Neither were truly painful and I have a low pain tolerance.
Period stopped! I can’t remember how long I had it removed before I conceived but we conceived on our first try 😅🫣☺️ so definitely didn’t affect anything long-term! It didn’t affect my weight personally. My main issues with it were the lack of sex drive and it heightened my mood swings, which I get anyway with PMS. If I did choose to go back on the coil I’d get the copper one. I’d recommend giving the mirena a go - you can always have it removed early if you’re not getting on with it. Just make sure you have a free day after it gets put in because the cramps can hurt and you should rest! 💜
Had it twice and both times have been great
Just goes to show every woman’s experience is different. I had it for 2 years before I ripped it out myself. I had my normal period the whole time. It made me feel psychotic. I could not control my emotions to the point I was even medicated and that didn’t work. I lost so much hair to the point I had a mullet. It did not hurt going in or coming out for me. The only reason I took it out myself is because I went to my doctor on 5 seperate occasions and each time she told me to just “give it more time.” <- I’ve seen this way too many times with others as well. If you consider it I would set a timeline with your doctor and have them even put it in your notes. If you feel symptoms you will give it x amount of months before you want it out immediately.
I had the mirena for 5 years. Going in didn’t hurt as much as some people find, but I did cramp a lot for a few hours after. I wouldn’t get the hormonal one again just because I found it gave me lack of sex drive and I was like what’s the point of a contraception that stops me wanting sex? 😅 but that might not happen to you!
