Nightmare day rant!!

I just need somewhere to rant where I feel like people will get it!!! Today I called the GP because my daughter has chicken pox and we think some of her spots look infected. They said you can’t bring her here as she’s contagious, and we have no appointments anyway. Go to pharmacy. I call pharmacy, they say we can check if they’re infected, but we wouldn’t be able to prescribe antibiotics, call 111. Call 111, they say head to minor injuries unit at local hospital. Get a taxi with baby to minor injuries unit, they say 111 shouldn’t have referred you as patient is under 2, go to A&E. A&E refer me to paediatrics where I spend the next few hours with baby waiting for a doctor. After a doctor sees us, he prescribes antibiotics and directs us to the on site pharmacy. We head to the on site pharmacy and it is a mess, so many people waiting, sign on the glass saying wait is at least 1 hour. I get to the front of the queue after half an hour (this is just to ask for prescription, still over an hour wait to actually get it), they say we don’t have a referral. I was confused as doctor says referrals are sent digitally and go through right away, she’s adamant they don’t have it. Head back to paediatrics, I ask them if I can get a referral to my local pharmacy instead as both me and baby have been there for hours, haven’t eaten and are exhausted. She says no it doesn’t work like that, and she also said the wait at pharmacy isn’t hours and that if they didn’t have my referral they would have called them. Basically super unhelpful, condescending and implying I’m a liar. At this point I had a bit of a breakdown and stormed out in tears. I gave up and headed home, tried GP and 111 again to no avail. At home feeling like the world’s worst mother for not waiting for her prescription even if it took hours. Get a call from an unknown number, it’s the paediatrics department saying we’re so sorry but we never put your referral through and we owe you an apology, please come and collect a green slip that you can take to any pharmacy to get her antibiotics (?!?!?!) That’s it. Thank you if you read this far. I’m now trying to nurse a headache and my sick baby whilst my partner goes and collects this slip.

I truly hope you have a better weekend ❤️

Aww so sorry you’ve had such an awful day. Doctors nowadays are absolutely awful and super unhelpful, especially when they make you feel like an awful mam and a first time mam. I feel like it’s a constant battle with doctors as there is no communication between any of them whatsoever quite often which just adds to the frustration. I went to the GP yesterday with my daughter as she’s got a reoccurring chesty cough that comes and goes every 6-8 weeks which today sounds quite barky/seal like, she’s warm and clammy to the touch but cold on her hands and feet with no temperature and random outbursts of crying and screaming and all I’ve got told is to keep an eye on her, even though the cough has been there for more than 7 days😕 Hopefully your little one will be on the mend soon and feeling loads better. And I think you’re a great mam, especially after a rough day like this with being messed about by healthcare professionals and being given the wrong information x

Oh my god I would lose it. Having to do all that with a sick baby sounds like a nightmare. I’m sorry you’ve had a shit day

@Sarah thank you so much ❤️

@Julia awful! It’s so hard because as their mums, we know when something is wrong and people just don’t listen. I really hope you get to the bottom of what’s wrong with your little one, and that she feels better soon. And I hope you’re okay x

@Victoria~ thank you so much ❤️ she was a total angel the whole time luckily

What an absolute shambles! Makes me angry/upset just reading this. I definitely would've had a meltdown!! Don't be too hard on yourself 💕 You've done great! It might've been a nightmare of a day, but you got there in the (veeeery) end. Hopefully the antibiotics kick in soon and your daughter will feel better again!

I’m so sorry. We’ve had experiences like this and I’ve ended up in tears. Taking care of a sick baby is hard enough without all of this nonsense too! Exhausting and ridiculous you have to go through this!

My goodness… that’s a lot. Have a glass of wine! Thankfully you got he apology, but that’s beside the point!

So sorry you’ve had such a rough day, communication at hospitals is truly awful at the moment and have experienced it getting worse with my dad’s cancer care and having to wait for prescriptions and for his injections to arrive from labs at a different hospital. I’ve sent you a message if you want to have a chat at any point x

Yeah I would have had a full blown meltdown myself, so sorry that happened 😓 tomorrow is a new day! X

@Aicha thank you so much Aicha, I appreciate that 😭🫶🏼

@Rebecca it’s so reassuring to hear that others lost it as well, my nervous system only regulated hours and hours later. Thank you for your kind words xxx

@Zoe right?! I appreciated the apology but that nurse/receptionist at paediatrics really needs some training or maybe she was having a bad day too but she just did not help at all

@Emily that sounds awful for your dad, what a total mess 😞

@Candace today has been so much better already! Thank you 🩷

@Ari oh absolutely! We're only human and already in a stress state worrying about our poorly babies! The other day a woman on 111 said she'd call me back, I was begging her not to hang up as three people had already said they would and didn't. She did actually call me back and I burst into tears when I answered the phone as I was so relieved she'd actually called back! She was the only person who was kind and understanding to me that day and actually got us to the care we needed xxx
