My breastfed newborn is constipated

I’ve been exclusively breastfeeding my 2 week old baby and she’s had me up all night recently trying to poo. I’m sure that’s what it is as she gets so much relief when she finally poos. I was told that breastfed babies are rarely constipated so what am I doing wrong?! She’s so uncomfortable and she’s in so much pain I’ve tried bicycle legs and tummy massages and all of that but nothings seeming to work. She still has a normal amount of dirty nappies a day it’s just taking her so long to do it and it hurts her. Her poos aren’t even hard so I’m so confused. Help :(

Breastmilk is a natural laxative but young babies struggle with the toilet in general it’s nothing you’re doing wrong. If the poo isn’t solid they’re not constipated. They’re still figuring out how those muscles works it’s a very new process for them still. Warm baths can help them to relax x

@Yasmin Thankyou, it’s weird tho cos in the first week she had no trouble pooing at all? She’s only recently struggled in the past few days x

It sounds like Infant dysxhezia not constipation. They essentially grow out of it

Could try a warm bath if her cord has come off x

We went through this with ours, it wasn’t so much he was constipated but he didn’t poo for about a week one time, was so worried I kept a “poo diary” lol. HV told us breastfed babies can go up to 11 days without pooing, but if she’s in pain then have you tried to hold her on her tummy across your arm and then circle her waist? Also clockwise circle massage on her stomach, with light pressure may help too? X

As above have said, not constipated if the poo isn’t actually hard they’re just figuring out how to work their butt lol. It’ll start to get easier for them in a couple months max I think.

He’s only 2w old he’s literally just learnt how to breathe, pee, poop burp and fart I mean even his own farts will shock him at this point he’s learning his body and how to poop since he’s never had to before 😂 EBF babies can go 7-10 days in between poops sometimes but they’re not constipated since it comes out liquidy. He’s learning how to use his bowel muscles and will just get better and more efficient over time. In the womb for 9m, he’s just only learnt to poop in the last 2w.

I had to use the windi on my son a couple of times
