Advice on milk supply please

I’ve been combi feeding my newborn but I don’t think the mixture is agreeing with her. She will do loose stools mid bottle feeds. I last breastfed yesterday lunchtime. If I dropped the formula now would my body have enough to feed her?

The more you latch the more your body produces so worth a try without the formula. May find there is some cluster feeding to increase your supply to match what they need. As long as they have regular wet nappies and are gaining weight you are producing enough.

Your supply should respond, you could do a very small formula top up after a breastfeed while you transition. Would recommend feeding formula via a cup (you can use a spoon if you done have access to a feeding cup) to help baby not get too used to the ‘ease’ of the bottle. Some info here: https://llli.org/news/cup-feeding/ Also, you could contact your midwife/maternity unit for BF support, they should come and do a home visit or book you in to a local clinic/support. You could call the BF helpline too for some support: http://www.nationalbreastfeedinghelpline.org.uk/ Best of luck with your feeding journey! I recently had to top up with formula just for a day while my milk supply established after birth, it got him through and we’re back exclusively on breast with lots of nappy output x

if you are more than 6 weeks pp it may be a little harder to raise supply but not impossible. i’d just say keep an eye on how frequently your baby has wet diapers and consider a lactation consultant if possible
