Can someone explain what metformon is? Xx
@Kirsty it's mainly used for diabetes and gestational diabetes, but it probably has other off label uses
@Kirsty the modified release version is sometime prescribed as well to help with weight loss. Xx
Metformin helps women with PCOS lower their A1c( sugar levels) and reducing androgens also it can also help with weight loss. With lower those levels and weight loss it can help a woman with PCOS get pregnant. It does not help someone with ovulation issues. And many times women who take this medication also take clomid/femara to help with ovulation.
@Carrie I suffer from PCOS and I feel I’m not ovulating. I have 4-6 periods a year atm Iv only had one to why I asked. I’m not sure if I should go on them or not.
Is it your OB prescribing the medication or a fertility doctor? What’s your A1c? Has your doctor done a full work up ? Checking hormone levels ? Thyroid levels ? You are definitely not ovulating with only having that many periods a year. If your body was ovulating correctly you would have a period every month. As a fellow woman with PCOS and someone who did not ovulate normally. I used metformin along with other fertility medications to have my babies.

I started metformin in December for my pcos. I'm not sure if I'm actually ovulating, but I can say I was previously having a period every 3-4 months and now have had one January, February, and March almost exactly 30 days apart so I'm very hopeful 🤞
