Baby measuring big - GD?

Hello! Anyone had baby measuring on the bigger side and not had gestational diabetes? Our baby’s belly was measuring 97th percentile and I’m having a glucose tolerance test now on friday. Really hoping I don’t have it as it will effect the plans I had for birth…

At my 20 week scan his belly was 91st percentile. I had a growth scan at 26 weeks and all the measurements were much closer to 50, they can fluctuate so much. My glucose tolerance test results were also completely normal. Good luck!

Yes my baby is currently measuring 95th. I had the gestational diabetes test a couple of weeks ago and it came back I didn’t have it, so they now have booked me in for a growth scan in a few weeks time to check baby’s size again!

Thank you so much!! Trying not to panic but after the talk I had from the doc it’s hard not to 😫

Yes! My little one was measuring on the 97th percentile and then above that within the last few weeks. He was born a day over my due date and was 9lb 14oz! So quite big but no GD! Xx

Yep my babies stomach was 97th centile at an unplanned growth scan I had around the 29 week mark so I did the test and it came back negative, a few weeks later at my 32 week scan their tummy has evened out down to 83rd and their legs and head have caught up.

My first I was measuring big and never had gd

My son was measuring big my whole pregnancy, I had growth scans every 4 weeks because of it. He was 10lbs at birth (39 weeks 4 days) and I didn't have GD even though they did mention the possibility at one point because of his size. Now I'm having twins and one baby has almost the exact same measurements as he did at my 24 week growth scans. The MFM specialist mentioned the possibility of GD and kinda had me worried because I haven't had my GD test yet. My actual OB has no concerns about it due to my son being big and my A1C test from the beginning of my pregnancy was nowhere near prediabetic. My GD test is in about 4 weeks. I personally opted for C sections because my son also had a big head (his head was 8 weeks ahead and he was measuring full term at 36 weeks), but people do have 10lb babies naturally, it is possible so I wouldn't stress too much, at least before your glucose test.

Babies belly was measuring 25 weeks at my 22 week scan and my bump growth is on the 97th, had my GD test and came back absolutely fine. I have another growth scan tomorrow at 28+2

In the scans the baby was measuring right on point, but in my 28w appointment my bump was measuring 31cm, which places me roughly 3 weeks ahead size wise. Not an issue at all according to my midwife and the glucose test came back perfectly fine! Good luck!

Thank you everyone!! ❤️🙏🏼 You’ve helped me not to spiral and worry in advance.

Yes! My first was 99th percentile whole way through! No gestational diabetes. Currently pregnant with 2nd and looks like she is measuring bang on the same and again no gestational diabetes ! Some people just have 'big babies' . I will say they predicted my 1st to be over 10lbs and she was 8lbs 2 so their measurements can be wrong!

@Millie Good to know thanks for sharing ☺️ Did you have to induce or do a c-secrion due to baby measuring big?

@Peppi they induced me at 37 weeks and it was not a positive experience, ended up in emergency c sections at 37 + 6 (baby was absolutley fine). This time round I am having an elective c section and they have said they will not do it any earlier then 38 weeks ! If I had my time again with my first I would of trusted my body more and held out for a bit longer and refuse induction, its just scary when you are a first time mum! 🫶

@Millie Ohh I’m sorry it was not a good experience for you 😢 Did they want to induce purely because baby was measuring big in scans?

@Peppi yes they did! And speaking to the midwife team this time around they said that that shouldn't be reason enough to induce so early. Trust your instincts closer to the time, you've got this mama 🫶
