Feeding

My baby is 4 weeks old and just constantly seems hungry. He is formula fed and sometimes breast fed (to top up). I have tried hungry cow & gate formula but does not agree with his stomach so gone back to normal cow & gate. He has 4-5oz every 2-3 hours but I literally finish feeding him and within half hour he seems hungry again (hunger cues, crying and will suck anything close to his mouth). I try to leave him and wait close to his 2-3 hour mark unless he gets really upset but I feel terrible thinking am I starving him? Is anyone else experiencing this or does anyone have any suggestions please

I’m having the same! My baby is 4 weeks on Wednesday - I feed 5oz every 2ish hours at the moment (lead by baby) and if he seems to fuss between feeds I try to breastfeed where I can, but if he is clearly hungry directly after finishing his bottle I’ll make up another couple of ounces of formula and see how much he wants. I asked my midwife about over feeding on formula as I was worried about that and she said to be led by baby when it comes to feeding and that as long as you’re doing paced feeding (baby sat up right, bottle parallel to the floor so the milk isn’t tipped down their throat) then a baby won’t overeat more than they need! X

Maybe he's having a growth spurt or just having normal cluster feeds. If he's not being very sick I'd keep offering him milk, maybe an ounce every half hour. If you are doing the paced bottle feeding he can stop when full. Is he gaining weight ok? Maybe give him a dummy and see if he settles with that to suck.

My son does this and he’s breast fed, he needs a dummy for comfort after a feed due to tension on his jaw, sucking helps relieve it. He’s having treatment by a cranial osteopath maybe you could look into that if it’s similar? He’s will settle after having the dummy for a bit and after our last 2 sessions x

My LG also feeds about 4-5oz but of expressed breast milk every 2-4 hours, seems hungry right after, usually a good burp stops the fussing, we then try playing with her (using black/white flash cards, some tassels and a rattle doll) and sometimes will also give a dummy because babies enjoy the soothing sucking! Dummies are not bad before 6m of age
