I hate interviews and get really nervous beforehand. When was your last interview? Maybe get some practice in by going to other interviews. Also preparing before hand, researching the company, think about what questions they may ask
@Kath literally about 5 years ago! I’ve been in the same job for such a long time and worked my way up, so I’m definitely rusty! And now interviews seem to be multiple ones for an entry level job, which is terrifying!
Yes I get nervous before interviews but it helps if you a) study study study, study your resume so you don't trip up, study the job listing/position/company so you know what they are asking for and b)look up interview questions or interview prep videos on YouTube, I'll usually watch or listen to them and pause and think about my answer and practicing it out loud and then I'll also have the video playing while I'm driving on the way to the interview.
@Genna Thankyou! Yes I’ve tried to be as prepared as possible, I’ve looked up commonly asked Q for the position as well as Q they could ask about the specific skills required for the role. I didn’t think about watching videos, that is a fab idea!
I think Interviews are terribly outdated and significantly disadvantage those who are neurodivergent. This is coming from someone who interviews well.
@Genevieve totally agree, I wouldn’t say I am neurodivergent, but I do suffer with major situational anxiety. I am a smart person, I’m well spoken, but I just turn into an absolute fumbling idiot when in an interview! It is so frustrating!
With that being said, the best way to get over interview jitters is to do a mock interview. Get someone you know to go through some example questions in a role play sense. Also look up the star method for answering questions.
I used to when I first started going to them, I'd have a full on panic attack throw up & having to use the toilet 20x before I left the house. Its a wonder that I managed to even go to an interview at all😅 Thankfully, the more I went to the less anxiety I felt.
You should try to boost yourself confidence and keep trying x
Yep. I completely ballsed up an interview last week. Spent so much time and effort on the application only to go and completely forget how to answer a basic question. It's so frustrating as I have no issues doing presentations etc, but for some reason as soon as I feel I'm being judged in an interview situation I just freeze.
I personally love interviews , if it’s a job I am Capable of and am qualified if not overly qualified for then why wouldn’t they be interested, when you learn your own strengths then emphasise on them and what they will add to there business, like tiff said it’s an exchange. Some jobs may want you but others can offer more and are also looking for exactly what you can offer so definitely shop round, one of my biggest pointers I always give people is to ask questions and point out what your needs are and ask how they will be able to meet them, also 2 of my favourite questions are 1- What would your employees say about working here 2- Why should I work for you. These questions will give you a great inside to your possible future work place x
Nope! I truly enjoy them! Don’t overthink them, if you humanize the experience instead of building anxiety it is helpful. They are appealing to you just as much as you have to appeal to them, it’s an exchange, not interrogation.
