When I had this conversation with my Health Visitor, she said you can start them at any age, not necessarily meaning on the potty but by helping them get ready for it. For example, start doing their nappy changes in the bathroom, so they associate a poop or pee with the bathroom. First thing in the morning, take them to the bathroom. When they’re a bit older, about 15-20 minutes after having some water, sit them on the potty/toilet. We haven’t started this yet, my boy is only about to turn 1, but I plan to start the nappy changing in the bathroom soon. Hope this helps 😊
We started a few months after he turned 2. My only advice is when you decide to go for it - go for it 💯. No nappies - just toilets. For our son’s 2nd birthday we got him a few books about potty training, then just before we stared we took him shopping to choose his own pants and potty. The a week for so after that he woke up one morning and said. Today I’m wearing my big boy pants. And we went with it, it took about a month to fully ‘get it’
My MIL potty trained 6 boys in her family, and is planning to train our son this summer (he will be 21 months). She lets him loose naked in the yard as much as possible so he learns his body cues for pee and poo.
Thankfully the daycare my son goes too also potty trains. They helped him during the day and I helped during the time he was with me. I kept him bare bottom for as long as I could. I also let him see me on the potty and explained what I was doing on the potty. I started to believe the “boys are slower when it comes to potty training” then I called BS. And I’m glad I did bc it allowed me to keep up the consistency with my son’s potty training. Now he’s 2.5 and fully potty trained. Main tip I can give is let him go bare bottom as much as you can, if possible let him sit on the potty when you sit on the potty, be firm about WHERE to potty, and try to “have fun”. By that I mean cheer him on, encourage him to want to potty. I thought it was gonna be hard but it honestly wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. Also, YouTube was helpful in some ways as well.
My son was dry day and night by 2 years! Depends on little man really! I’d say summer is best and then he’s got free roam outside to have accidents and it not be a problem! This is what we did x
