Teat Sizes

My partner is EBF but also expressing into bottles so I can feed our baby boy too. However, for the past 2-3 weeks, he's not been latching on properly and being really fussy on both the boob and the bottle. He's 4 months old and a hungry boy too so we're worried incase he's not getting enough 😢 We're wondering if it's too slow for him but at the same time, don't want him to be confused if the nipple will be too slow. Has anybody been in this situation before? Would be more than grateful for any advice 🥹

At 4 months old a lot happens developmentally for bub and you may notice them fussing more at the breast and just generally being more distracted! They’ve realised there’s things going on around them that must be looked at 😀! When bottlefeeding a breastfed baby, the teat needs to be the slowest one (0/1) as this encourages baby to actively feed at the bottle and so mimics a breastfeed 🥰 x

@Olivia it's nice to hear our boy isn't the only one getting distracted with everything 😂 he's literally on and off constantly looking around so gets frustrated and cries cause he wants more but won't stay on 🙈 we'll keep him on 0 if that's the case. Thank you so much for your help 😊 xxx

My little girl is like this, I have found she takes feed a LOT better in her sleep than when she is awake. My Health visitor also recommended starting purees along with milk as it can keep them more full during the day. My little one now has puree/Rusks first thing in the morning has around 12oz milk through out the day and a few mouthfuls of puree here and there and she will have around 2-3 maybe even 4 bottles through the night. This has been happening for a few weeks now and she is slowly going back into routine of sleeping through the whole night and having more to eat/drink during through day. It's all part of development, regressions and adapting. Hope this helps😄

If you are concerned about the feeds that much get your little one weighed see if he is on the correct path if healthy weight for him! My little ones goes through stages of eating less when she is learning a new skill but she stays on track with her weight so it's nothing to worry about unless they are losing weight x

For extra hungry babies i recommend reduced sugar Farley Rusks and Ella's kitchen purees, they are for 4month+ and honestly some babies just need that little bit more x

@Jorja there is no need to wean early for hungry babies. Their digestion isn’t ready until around 6 months so shouldn’t be done unless advised by a medical professional

@Lauryn I was advised by health visitor as little one was always hungry but refused a bottle! Every baby is different most babies wean earlier than 6 months 😌
