How important is it to burp your newborn?

I have a 7 week old and he’s not a very big burper. He’s MOSTLY breastfed, but takes 1 bottle of formula in the evening. He sleeps about 2.5 hour stretches, at the most at night. Sometimes I suspect that he would sleep longer if he wasn’t gassy. And he wouldn’t be gassy if he’d burp more.

I was told when my boy was being mostly breastfed he wouldnt burp too much, but instead of burping bicycling his legs because his gas would be more bottom end! That worked, and even now being combi fed hes more gassy from the rear than burping!

My breastfed baby always needed burping, but I definitely knew about it! If he’s not obviously uncomfortable he might not need it so much. 2.5 hours is a very normal stretch at that age.

my breastfed baby 9/10 needs burping! he burps like a grown man 🤦🏼‍♀️ but he’ll definitely let me know if he needs burping, overnight he seems to be fine without burping but he’s very gassy from the bottom end!

How do you EFFICIENTLY relieve gas from the lower end? I feel like he resist cycling his legs and that I’m hurting/bothering him with that, especially if it’s soon after a feed (and let’s be real everything is soon after a feed in the newborn stage because their wake windows are so short) Also, how long do you burp or cycle legs for until you give up?
