calling all thrifters/fashionistas

what do you think of something like a town-wide clothing swap everyone goes through their closets, boxes up their old clothes or clothes they don’t wear anymore by size and we do a clothing swap. you can trade items of the same category or “barter” or something idk the logistics but does this sound weird and dumb or cool and fun lmao

I've been to these before and gotten some really great clothing out of it! Love them

ahhh that’s so dope! how did you find the one you went to? i was thinking of making a fb group? @Raqi

Back when I lived in DC and was active in the punk/creative/DIY scene, I'd find these events through friends! A Facebook group sounds like a great start

My mom's group at my church does a clothing swap twice a year. You bring in whatever clothes, shoes, baby items, etc., that you don't use, want, or need anymore and then take whatever you want from what was brought in. Anything that's leftover gets donated. You don't have to bring anything in to be allowed to take anything.

that’s wonderful & i love that. it allows for everyone to have access even if they may not have enough themselves to offer, what a great idea . 🫶🏽 @Kelli

I’m totally on board for bringing back the barter system

when i learned about the barter system in school our teacher had us all bring something in we made so we could barter with our classmates for their goods lol. it was so fun, i brought in beaded bracelets 😂 @Zii

I just went to one last week. There were a ton of folding tables set up, each labeled with its own category, like “womens shirts,” “boys pants,” “mens coats,” so on. As people arrived, they put their items on the corresponding table. Then you were free to browse and take what you need. A local library or community center could help you if you’re trying to organize one. Good luck!

oh awesome! i’ve never seen one advertised by me but i will definitely look into asking the local library or community center. i was thinking of making it like a fun way for women to get together but i also like the idea of anyone clothing or anyone coming @Anne

does your community have a “Buy Nothing” Facebook group? thats also another place to “network” with fellow swappers in your community. yeah! you can theme it to whoever you want - ive been to ones just for women, just for kids… sounds like a fun time! good luck!
