Sorry to hear this. It’s a tough time. How was she diagnosed? Have they done an MRI? It can be genetic in some cases. The paediatrician should do blood tests to rule it out. Start doing physiotherapy if you aren’t already. It’s the best thing you can do. There’s some good FB groups to join too with lots of helpful advice from other parents
@Alex ah I see sorry! It would make sense she was 7 weeks premature and also came out via emergency c section and needed resus! She’s just turned 3 and she’s the most amazing, determined little girl! Yes we’ve been referred to physio for some time now, waiting to hear what else we will be referred to!
@Loren so we were initially told that she would need an MRI, however the paediatrician phoned yesterday to say after speaking with a colleague they didn’t want to put her out for one when all of the findings from her appointment prior were clear indicators so they were happy to confidently diagnose her! I will ask about the blood test when we hopefully see them next! She’s been in with physio for some time now to try and help with her walking/mobility! Thank you so much x
Yes same with my son. He was born at 26 weeks and suffered a brain bleed as a result. As far as I’m aware it’s not genetic. Has she had any scans of her head so far? Or was the diagnosis based on her delay in development? I know in some situations it can be either.
Ah fair enough. We had a similar experience with our paediatrician pretty much confirming just from his first assessment but had an MRI to see exactly what had gone on because he wasn’t born early so it was a bit of a surprise. It’s such a unique journey that other parents just don’t understand. Sounds like you are doing all the right things for your little one x
@Alex so they had originally said that she was to have an MRI Scan but the paediatrician said to me yesterday they could confidently diagnose her without having to do the MRI, so I believe it was from how she currently walks, and her left side of the body being significantly weaker! I need to ask so many questions so hoping when we have another appointment in a few weeks time I can get more answers then! X
My little boy has cerebral palsy feel free to message me!
Cerebral palsy is not genetic. It’s something that happens to the baby when still in your tummy or shortly after they’re born. Usually as a result of brain bleed and brain being starved of oxygen. My son has CP and he is the happiest little bundle of joy. He is 2.5 years old. Have they been referred to physiotherapists/occupational therapists?
