My little boy has a tongue tie. He really struggled with latching, and we ended up exclusively pumping as it was too frustrating for us both when trying to laych. We were told at birth. Our community midwife confirmed this when she came out to us the day after coming out of the hospital and referred us. We had an appointment last week (7weeks) with the infant breastfeeding team who assessed him. As he is now bottle fed, he didn't need to have anything done. His tongue movement has improved majorly since birth. But if I was still breastfeeding he'd probably have had to have it snipped x
Ah ok my LO is bottle fed just having a bit of a nightmare with her feeding and thinking of all different reasons why and I know my eldest would always stick her tongue out but realised my newborn I’ve never notice her tongue. She also won’t latch on to a dummy even though she cries for it if I hold it she settles as soon as I let go it falls out and she cries but that could be laziness I guess 🫣
My LO struggled with bottles and dummies at first. Could always ask your GP? x
I do have an appointment for myself this afternoon so might see if they can see. Thank you 🙂 x
My baby had a tongue tie. He was always losing milk / milk dribbling out the sides when drinking his bottle. His tongue also never came past his lips. I changed to MAM bottles as the teat was thinner and easier for him to drink from. My health visitor put in a referral for him. We got an appointment the next week. He had his done at 6 weeks. He is now 9 weeks and he barely dribbles when drinking his bottles.
Ah ok I wouldn’t say she excessively dribbles but her tongue never comes past her lips we used to joke about my first being a lizard 🫣. She was also diagnosed CMPA last week so it could be the formula she’s now on doesn’t agree with her. Honestly it’s true when they say no babies are the same because this is a completely different experience to my first I feel like I’m constantly worrying that I’m doing something wrong 🫣
I also was on MAM bottles but changed to tommie Toppie anti colic because the first GP I see about the issues we’ve had recommended them for colic. I might go back to MAM see if they help.
My little boy had a tongue tie, my local health visiting team have specialist infant feeding practitioners who you can contact directly and they assessed his tongue tie and also hold a clinic where we got it snipped, so I’d recommend seeing if yours do the same, although there are often private midwives that can do it (I’d make sure they do a full assessment of movement rather than simply look at the tongue movement)
My little girl has this, she was having trouble latching to my breast I mentioned it to the community midwife at my post birth day 3 check up and she made an appointment for me (can’t remember what the particular team/department is called). If you lift your tongue up it’s that little piece of skin in the middle. If its too short if could be a tongue tie as baby isn’t able to lift tongue or mouth wide enough. Or even stick tongue out far enough. My little girl had her tongue tie sorted when she was about 2 weeks old and after that she was able to latch better and stick her tongue out more
