Feeding advice

My little girl is formula fed and we are struggling at times. She usually only takes about 2oz at a time so we are feeding every couple of hours. Sometimes the feeds are a nightmare! She shows hunger cues but then when we feed she starts normal and then starts to tense/ arch her back and turn her head away. If you take the bottle away she looks for it. Sometimes I can hear her stomach like not growling but making noise. She usually brings up wind okay and the temperature is always checked on the milk. Has anyone had any experience with this? Or any idea how I can help? It’s not with every feed and I haven’t really worked out a pattern with it.

I think it’s very normal new born behaviour - mine has feeds like this, it’ll just be a phase but it is so frustrating!! She could be struggling a bit with digestion / wind but she also may just not know quite what she wants! Sometimes for me it’s hard to tell whether my LO is nuzzling my shoulder because she’s hungry or whether she’s trying to self soothe because she’s tired - they also nuzzle and head butt then as well!

Have you had any mucus nappies, rashes or sickness at all? It all could be completely normal but this is how our 1st sons cows milk protein allergy first presented.xx

It could be nothing but could be something! Could be silent reflux or potentially CMPA. How is she between feeds etc? Is she uncomfortable lying down? X

Our midwife suggested getting the mam bottles with size 0 teat when ours was struggling to take the milk from a tommee tippee with size 1. It helped a lot, and we make sure to burp her every 0.5-1 ounce and now she’ll take 4 ounces consistently every 3 hour compared to 1 ounce every hour. Also look out for a clicking sound as baby is eating, it means the latch isn’t right and she needs repositioning

@Charlotte no sickness and nappies are completely normal. No rashes either xx

@Samantha she definitely has a witching hour but generally she’s fine in between feed and night times she is doing long stretches and going down fine

@Alex she definitely makes a little noise when she feeds almost like a gulp sound. Maybe I should try different bottles. Although it’s not every feed so I wonder if it would happen every time with that
