Has he shown signs of being ready? I agree with MIL. First few days at home with nothing on the bottom half. Take them regularly. Add underwear, trousers etc afterwards.

Started a month ago with my 20 month old! We stayed home for 3 days to learn the potty (just undies). When going out, I put pull ups on over the underwear so if there's an accident it can still be felt. Pull ups only for nap and bedtime. Also got a few potty books leading up to this and during to keep it familiar. I did a few rewards for the first few #2s in the toilet also (dollar store toys) and stickers for #1. Helped with motivation. We went straight to the big potty to avoid challenges associated with transitioning but I know some start with a little potty.

I put regular underwear on and then I pull up over it just because they don't like the feeling of being wet and also the pull up catches anything that may have soaked through

I potty train in diapers. My son thinks it's hilarious to pee and poop around the house. 😳 He can tell me when he wants to use the big boy potty.... Read potty books a lot. He'll do fine. 🙂

Buy a carry potty they are expensive but worth it if you’re out and about Ask him every 20 mins if he needs the loo Sometimes they find it hard to know they need to go but it took my little boy about 2 weeks to fully know he needed a wee As they are so used to going in their nappies without thinking Make sure they are showing signs of being ready Although saying this my little boy didn’t have any real signs but he’s a lazy little bugger sometimes (we started just after his 3rd birthday) So we just went for it and he’s now fully trained (stil wears nappy at night time, but that’s quite normal) Once you make the jump to ditch nappies in the day, don’t be tempted to put a nappy back on here and theee for convenience as it confuses them My LB had about 4 accidents a day for first week and gradually went down now has maybe one every 2 weeks Take lots of spare clothes out with you! Good luck 🤞

Agree with staying home for a few days otherwise you’re just gonna be in a mess, if you can wait till it’s warmer then just being point blank naked is deffo the way forward for boys! My little boy showed no signs of readiness last summer but I did it anyway because I didn’t want two in nappies as I was due in October! Just remember there’s gonna be accidents, and not to get upset about it because it only sends them backwards!

We made my son the boss of his body and it’s his responsibility to take care of it and listen to it and use the potty cause that’s where waste goes. Lots of books and shows. It’s nice not to have to force him to go by the clock though I do pressure first thing in the morning and before bed and if we are heading somewhere without a potty.
