Obviously don’t use it. That’s really not right. There won’t be a ‘fix’ for a dodgy machine
Omg I thought this had happened to me too!! Sometimes the bottles look like they have more water in, I thought I was just sleep deprived and going mad haha. I’m probably not going to use it anymore anyway as it was only for convenience but I’ve had it for 4 weeks and my baby is sick most times when I make the bottles from the prep machine and I’ve noticed he takes it better from the kettle once cooled. Which makes me think the theories are true that it isn’t hot enough to kill the bacteria x
What bottles have you got? I’ve got the mam anti colic so they can’t be cooled under running water which is annoying but I know roughly when he’ll feed so I make the Bottle before hand and put it outside to cool with the lid slightly off. It can sit for 2 hours before use anyway x
For convenience could you pre fill a few bottles in the morning of boiled water to put in the fridge, so there’s partially cool boiled water already and then top up with fresh boiled water to get it a temperature your LO likes?
@Sharnee powder has to be added directly to water that is at least 70°c to kill any bacteria in the powder
@Mia 🌼 keep the pre cooled boiled water in one bottle and then mix into fresh boiled water/formula? Sorry just trying to think of an alternative solution to using a prep machine and avoid hangry baby
I wouldn’t use it and possibly contact manufacturer to query it. I know you didn’t buy it but still can check with them. I’ve got two prep machines and both have been absolutely fine, I’ve never had any issues so seems like there’s something wrong with that machine itself x
@Mia 🌼 I have the other version of the prep machine but that’s exactly what mine does sometimes!
I’d advise maybe getting the nuby rapid cool as an alternative method if you can afford it. This mimics what the prep machine does but it’s much safer xx
I use a nuby rapid cool using the hot shot method, similar to how @Sharnee was explaining. I fill the bottle with the right amount of boiling water I need, then pour all but 1 ounce into the nuby rapid cool, then add my powder to the 1oz left in the bottle to mix and sterilise the formula, then once the water in the nuby is cool, which only takes a minute or two, I pour it back into the bottle and mix it. That might be better than having your machine mess up your last sterile bottle😭
This is why they’re not recommended and can make babies sick, we use the rapid cool and it’s fab and NHS approved xx
I don’t have one, but I haven’t really ever heard good things about prep machines - from people finding mould to a current issue that the water doesn’t get hot enough to kill any potential bacteria ☹️
