First timer in July as well. I’m a doula and I have a doula too! I think getting certified as a doula and studying womb health and wellness helped to ease many fears. What I’ve noticed most women’s fear stems from the unknown - but the more you learn what to expect - what’s “normal” for your individual body and what’s cause for concern than it’s easier to navigate.
I second and third positive birth stories and hypnobirthing techniques. While I didn’t purchase the course it helps to soothe me to sleep when I wake in the middle of the night. 💛
Getting a doula, who will give both me and hubby private classes and be my support person in birth. Just trying to prepare best and trust the rest to go its way! All you can do.
First time mom in July too, I was wanting a doula, but they're so pricey 😭
@Gina your insurance won’t cover ?
My son's YahYah's(grandma not by blood) mother was my doula, she was retired and 80 something and sharp as a tack, she even had worked with the hospital so long that she was able to give me a tour of the L&D wing as well as where I'd recover from a C-section if I needed one, as well as if my baby had to go to the NICU. Her be8ng with me during the labor and delivery process was comfortable and felt natural.
@Melanie I honestly have no idea how to even go about that, didn't even know there was a possibility .-.
I took a Bradley Method class for my first. Ended up not using a lot of the info because I got induced for medical reasons but this time I'm using a postpartum doula. I found the postpartum period to be much more of a marathon than the actual delivery. If I had more money I'd probably also have a doula for birth too but with the Bradley Method your partner is basically trained to be that support person.
currently on a waitlist for a doula & just signed up for a personal nurse, getting my birth team prepped and ready so excited! its still uncanny to me that i have to actually push this baby out of my cooter like…. me ????!??!!!
I’m getting a doula this go round. I don’t have one my first pregnancy.
@Jessi where did you go to sign up for a doula ?
@Melanie Citywide Doula Initiative !
I had a postpartum doula for my first but did a lot of research into hypnobirthing. For me, knowledge makes me feel more comfortable. I did the positive birth company course but the most important thing I got out of it was reading and watching positive birth experiences. TV makes birth out to be a horrific and traumatizing situation but it doesn’t have to be like that at all. I had a natural birth and absolutely loved it! It looks like there’s some good stories here - https://thepositivebirthcompany.com/blog?srsltid=AfmBOopl4UrC2WeHTN6kDHIOAzMYPYKcJXrsNdFeFnkKRRBaSLpgqWBI
