Yes! I was so worried when I found but it ended up not being a big deal at all for me personally. Once I got to the hospital after my contractions got consistent, they just gave me two rounds of antibiotics in an IV before I delivered and that was all. They monitored the baby as usual and everything was normal
@Brandy I had a really quick delivery with my first so I’m super worried I won’t make it to the hospital on time to get the antibiotics 😭
^but my water did not break on its own. I believe that would change things because then the baby is exposed
You don’t ‘need’ the antibiotics it’s just a recommendation. Like monitoring baby after birth, also just a recommendation. You might not even be GBS positive at the time of birth as it’s a transient bacteria.
I tested positive for it in my 2nd pregnancy and the only thing it meant was that when my water broke I had to go straight into hospital to go on IV antibiotics. This time they’ve told me the same, they don’t test you again they just treat you as if you have it. Can honestly say I barely noticed the drip, was too busy with everything else I had going on 🤷🏻♀️
@Gaby and was your baby okay after ?
He was absolutely fine, yeah
Yeah you'll just get antibiotics before delivery
I was positive with my first and had him just under 3 hours after getting to the hospital. They do two rounds of antibiotics, 4 hours apart, which means I only got the first dose. He was completely fine. Like someone else said, just bc you’re positive now doesn’t mean you will be when you give birth. If for whatever reason you get there and they don’t even have time to give you the first round, no need to freak out. It’s a very small chance that you’ll still be positive and pass it on and they have a reaction. But if for some reason it does, you’re in a hospital where the nurses and drs are trained to look for any signs and can teach you and they can treat the baby 💕
Your best bet at finding accurate information is the NHS website (if you’re uk based that is). I also highly recommend Sara Wickham as a source of information on GBS. You can search her name in google.
